my mahindra is a 5005 a 2000 model about 45 pto horsepower.robertwhite the problems i have had would have only been covered by the bumper to bumper warranty the basic engine and transmission have been good. when the power steering cylinder fell off when it was a few years old it was not covered then nor would be now . the parts i have been breaking have had bad welds or bubbles in the casting.i have owned a mahindra long enough for problems to show up.i also have a jd and mccormick about the same age with lots more hrs and no where near as many problems.

While the LS may in fact be a good tractor. Any brand in which service doesn't exist (my LS guy is also a music store :confused2:) is out.

Don't blame you for not considering the LS with your local situation. So are the models that you first listed out all of the models that you are considering, or are there others?

cowski, so because you have had problems with your Mahindra, you feel that they all are like yours? If you want to spend the time, a person can find horror stories about every single brand. In the owners view of these problem tractors, the companies should never sell another machine at all. Sort of strange how these problems happen with a certain tractor, but they do every once in awhile. I will say and I have no knowledge of your situation or conditions, but a lot of these types of situations seem to be dealer related. I'm not saying that the problem isn't there, but how the dealer handles it can make a big difference with how the customer views the whole thing.

Sorry that you have had a bad experience with your Mahindra tractor. I have had just the opposite experience with both of mine. Fine machines, not the absolute best with everything that is available in today's market, but above average and have been very dependable. Am I a Mahindra only type of guy, not by any means. I know and accept that there are other machines available that are just as good if not better. Everything depends on ones situation and conditions that they have to work with.

Robert, all I can say is sit on and operate as many as you can and go from there.

Just my :2cents:

let me ask you a question mtnviewranch.do you think a company like mahindra(started US importation 1994) can build a tractor for the us market as good as john deere who has been building for over 100 years? i recommend equipment based on my experiences good or bad.30 years ago when i started farming profit margins were slim.buying a lemon tractor could lead you to bankruptcy.so i tend to be conservative in my recommendations.generally i tend to recommend jd or kubota new tractors to someone who is going to make a living with them.but for someone farming for enjoyment ,i guess any tractor will do.

Manhindra is a good tractor and is close or is the number 3 tractor seller in the states now. 5530 is a good/strong tractor also. You might also want to consider the JD 5055D or 5055E. I think the JD might not be that much different in price.

I've been looking for tractor sales data for sometime but never found any. Could you share your source?

My source was actually my JD dealer. I was wondering who was the top selling tractor manufacturers for compact tractors. Back in December, I was told Kubota was number one, JD was number two and Mahindra was number three. On the Ag tractor side, I think JD might still be number one. Of course, these numbers are fluid. The dealers get this information from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers or other sources. One of the dealers out there could tell you the proper source for their information.

I personally could care less about the "tier". I suppose Kioti would be considered a 2nd tier but my Kioti 45 has done everything I've asked of it over the past six years. I have sprayed, bushogged, plowed, dug, run the cultipacker, you name it, it's done it with no issues.
I have a JD dealer three miles from our farm, looked at them carefully but there was absolutely no dealing with them. They are still like that and have lost many tractor sales in this area, the trend now for farm tractors in our county seems to be red, (Case-IH).

Mahindra's are probably decent tractors. The local dealer here is a camper shell store, the only parts they stock are a few filters and pins. They don't have the facilities for doing major repairs. I went in and talked to them about who was doing their repairs and how it was handled. They told me they haven't had any issues yet that they couldn't deal with in the store and if they did they would send it to their other store an hour and a half away. It is encouraging that they haven't had any problems, but scary that if they did they aren't equipped to deal with it. I'm sure this isn't the case everywhere. In our area I'm sure the only people that are using them are homeowners (50 hrs or less per year), I have yet to see one in a production environment.

I will agree that when a person is making a living with their equipment, many factors need to be considered that are not that important when it is just for home & or hobby use.

As far as quality of equipment, yes Mahindra's equipment is just as good as anyone else's. Not better and some of the others offer options that are not available with Mahindra, different trannies and such with different models, but if you compare different makes with the same features, yes I believe that Mahindra is just as good as anyone else's including John Deere or Kubota, Massey, New Holland.

Because the previously mentioned companies offer a wider variety of equipment and options, I will agree that they are better suited for the USA market. That does not make Mahindra a company that manufacturers junk, just that they do not offer the same variety of equipment that some others do.

Service is by dealer, not brand, so service should be considered by the dealer. We have all read how dealers from all brands can make or break how a person feels about their equipment.

Just my :2cents:, no one needs to agree with me. ;)
