I have been looking at a new tractor and I would really like to buy something made here in the USA. I know JD is a American company but where are they made? Is Case, Massey, or New Holland made here? I am looking at about a 35-40hp.

It depends on which model you are considering. John Deere produces several different models in that horsepower range. They are made all over the world. The nicest models (3520 and 3720) are made in Georgia.

Some JD's are Japan Yanmars built to spec and assembled in the US.I've heard some CUT for several different vendors are built spec by one Korean manufacture. co-worked bough a small Massey last year that looks like a red JD 2305. It's a well kept secret exactly who and where.

When you find a tractor made in the US, let us know. :confused2:

I know the 5Ms are made in Augusta, GA. The 6000 series are made in Manheim Germany.

Their FELs are made in Mexico.

So yes, all other the place as others have stated.

2x20 Series are still built entirely by Yanmar. New 1 Series, 3E, 3x20 and 4x20 are built in Augusta, Georgia. 1 Series and both 3 Series still have Yanmar engines. 4x20 Series are John Deere PowerTech engines.

The MF your co-worker purchased was not a red 2305. The 2305 was a full Yanmar tractor - whereas the GC2xxx from Massey is built by Iseki.

The MF SCUT/CUT are built by Iseki of Japan. Iseki does not build anything for JD. Yanmar and JD are who you are talking about.

When I purchased my 4320 hydro, I was told the engine and cab were made in the USA. Everything else was from overseas. Jim told me it was based on model to which parts are made in the USA.

You can't go by what some salesman has told you (but many do). Our JD salesman swore that the 5075M was made in Augusta Ga and that he had even seen the engines being made there. Well he must have mighty good eyesight because the engine says "Made in Mexico" on the side of it. Our 5075M says Assembled IN USA on the side. Parts I've found that arn't are made in the USA are the Engine (Mexico), rear transmission (China) Hydrolics (Brazil), front axle, (India). All that is fine by me. What isn't fine are salesmen misleading customers that their tractors are made in the USA in order to gain a advantage over the other tractors which are made in the USA just as much as the Deeres. Until you get to a BIG one, over 100 HP, I would say that not any John Deere tractors are MADE in the US just bolted together out of imported parts which is the best you can hope for. My John Deere MX 6 mower is made in Mexico with a gearbox made in China. I like it. But it is what it is. My Kubota loader is made in USA, not sure if they still are.

Deere makes excellent tractors of course. But some of the sales are due to the image they mantain. It would appear that a large enough percentage of those sales are image driven so that they try mightily to keep that image in tact. I would be very interested in actually seeing the factory they make the smaller power tech engines at. Many assume its in the USA because they say "engine by Deere" but as pointed out Deere has factories all over the world and I have my doubts that the smaller power tech engines are made in the USA. I would hope they are, anyone have a idea besides what some salesman has pulled out of the blue in order to help make a sale?

You are right- this less-than-honest approach seems prevalent with JD in recent years. If you ask me, Deere is losing a lot of credibility due to the rampant farming-out of major components (IE Cherri Chinese diesels in some Gators) and much effort to hide (or at least obfuscate) country of origin. Couple that with other questionable trends, like increased use of poor-quality plastic for fenders and hoods (even in big ag machines), and there goes a heavy-duty reputation!
That is the reason that we have several Kubota machines, and only one older JD. Kubota seems very honest about who makes their components and where. They make all their own diesel engines (critical for me) and still make loaders and other heavy components in the US.

Friend of mine took the Gold Key tour at the GA plant and he said it mainly an assembly plant and not a manufacturing plant. I believe the 5000D series is made in India, 5000M is assembled in GA with Mexican engines, the smaller 5000E series is made in India and the larger ones are assembled in GA. 6400 series is made in Germany, some of the 6100 series are made in Saltillo, Mexico and some in Germany. Their coming from all sorts of places. From what I've been told you won't really get American made until the I think the 7000 series and they are making a huge expansion to their Waterloo, Iowa plant to keep up with demand for large equipment.

This page will tell you where most are made:
