What Grease to use?

What grease should be used to lubricate a FEL & backhoe? I know it should be an EP grease. I picked up some extreme-duty 3% moly grease at tractor supply, which I'm sure is good, but it's also $4.50 for a 14 oz. tube. The cheaper regular lithium greases did not have the EP additives. I'll go thru a couple tubes relubing my 460 FEL & 48 backhoe. I guess the better question to ask is, what is a cheaper source for an EP grease?

I use the JD polyerua, I'm not sure why you'd use a couple of tubes on your fel and hoe. It sounds like you may be overgreasing.

I pump grease in until I begin to see a little ooze out. Is this too much?

That sounds about right to me.

Pump till it oozes out is right. It flushes out the dirt and contaminates that stick to the grease and cause most of the wear.

As to a cheaper source.........I doubt think you are going to fine a cheaper source of a moly EP grease. Thats a pretty good price. And you "may" find a cheaper EP grease, but probabally not with moly. And moly is what you want for pins and bushings.

Personally I just hit it with two pumps about every 10 hours and even, that appears to be too often. Filling it up is a bit of a waste on the JD in my opinion. The fittings are made to fit loose and filling them up just will cause it to squish out anyway. If it isn't in there it isn't doing its job .

I go through 2 tubes a year with the FEL and the MMM.

Not that much dirt really gets in there unless you're burying the joints in the dirt.

By your post I thought you were going through a few tubes each time you grease. I use about 2 tubes per year also. I too pump till I see fresh grease. I tend to grease my bucket pins a little more often.
