Started my small tractor project today.

Was going to be a Doe but decided that it's too much time which I dont have I'm afraid.

Put a small Briggs and Stratton four stroke engine in the little Atco ride on today as the Honda that I had lined up has siezed solid due to lack of oil. my brother didn't put enough in after an oil change he thought a cup full would be enough. Any way the 330cc (11hp) single decided to get very hot and stop:(

The Briggs will be too small at about 2hp but it will do for now just to drive around at shows to save walking everywhere.

I intend to paint it in Ford blue with white wheels and fit an exhaust stack and a Recaro seat from a fast Ford for comfort.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow as I have to fit a drive pully and rig the belts up to the gearbox. Small pully on front should help with the lack of power, time will tell:)

Well it runs

Bit low on power though so I'll have to sort the throttle linkage out as it only runs at two speeds (slow and medium) the lever has stop run and cut on it so I spose the thing is governed at the carb.

Any tips on what all the springs and levers on the carb do would be appreciated:)

If you're not running a mower, 2 hp will be enough to get around. You won't win any races, but you'll move.

It moves ok up to third gear which is a fast walking pace, changing into fourth drops the revs too much and the engine stops.
I think this is something to do with the governer system.

I did get it into 5th downhill and it is quite fast but underpowered and stuggles on small grades

Right..............
Whilst trawling the interweb for a bigger engine I came across another Atco of similar age with a non runner 12hp engine in it.
Anyhow, we bought it, got it home, and with a bit of tlc and tuning the engine is now running sweet and is a real good one.

Steering was not working but managed to fix that after a stripdown and some tinkering, new bolts etc...

Decided to paint it in Fordson colours with a blue body and gray wheels, seat etc just like a real one.
Exhaust is going up in the air and gearlever is being relocated to the centre of the tractor where it should be.

Not going to alter the pulleys for more speed yet as there are no brakes, going to fit a disc set up from a go cart before its altered to go 40mph:laughing:

I'll get some pictures when its painted, just a lot of bits at the moment geen and rust....:)

Well, got her stripped down and painted the rear axle and the wheels.

Stripping all the paint off the hood so as to get a good finish.

Decided on CAT Yellow for the whole tractor with a black grill and maybe a black vertical exhaust.

Need some CAT decals for the hood and perhaps a badge on the grill.:)

Well its going along slowly , no pictures as not much achieved this week.

Tractor has to be ready for a show next weekend so it has been stripped and derusted and primered. Well most of it has, just a bit at the front around the engine which I was going to paint satin black but changed my mind.

The whole thing is going to be CAT yellow with a black seat, steering wheel and engine cowling.

Need to make an exhaust stack as well so got lots to do next week:)

Nice Project. I remember putting a 2 hp engine on a lawn tractor. It worked pretty good. Not fast, but at least it moved.

Managed to buy another Atco almost identical with a 12hp B+S so stripped it and painted it yellow, well got one coat on befor it rained and was too damp to paint it again.

Next nice day I'll get another coat on and then start rebuilding it

Looking great already. I have about 5 1 gallon cans of International yellow that was with the trailer house I got. I plan to use it to paint and restore my sears lawn tractor. I'm thinking that yellow will look real good on it.
