Kioti CK20s HST in progress
Hello, I'm new to the Forum and tractors as well... I have however run a bit of heavy equipment (including backhoes) and rented tractors and such...

We are in the process of getting a Kioti CK20Hst or at least that's the plan. :dance1:

I need a backhoe and I've been racking my brain trying to decide if the Woods 70x is worth the upgrade over the Kioti 2465. Dealer says $1,000 more or so.

I live in upstate NY and the Good Lord blessed us with a beautiful river valley carved by glaciers and loaded with the rocks, cobbles and boulders it left behind! My father in-law says our land is rocks with some soil in it.

So a good strong backhoe is important... As far as the specs, the Kioti looks like a strong hoe, but the frame mount system is a bit awkward IMHO and would make storage a pain with its large box frame.
The Woods 70x looks like it would be better for storing with its 4point attachment and easier to make a dolly for tucking it out of the way in the winter when the snowblower is on or other implements are in use.

I also wonder which would be easier to take off and put back on since I've never done so with either. Is the Woods similar to Kubota? I've seen that done in a video.

Another issue with the box frame on the Kioti was the ground clearance. The boxframe seems awful close to the ground on the smaller CK20. I haven't actually seen the 70x on a Ck20 (but I did see one with a BH6000); plus on the larger models I've seen, the woods subframe seemed to preserve a lot more of the ground clearance so I would think that would be the case on the CK20 as well.

The Woods also specs out a bit better and is a 7' vs 6.5' hoe. The dealer said both are good, but the woods is better and worth the upgrade. Oh the 70X also has a 2 year warranty vs 1 year for the Kioti hoe so another plus for Woods.

Just to fill in the blanks I did consider a larger model tractor but the CK20 is appealing for its small size and heavy weight for digging; plus it should be easier to maneuver on our heavily wooded property. We have rented larger tractors and it would be tough to do some of what we need with a big one. Sure some things would get done quicker but some would be near impossible as well; so that is why were at the CK20 for size.

Any opinions on the backhoe issue and any advice on other implements would be greatly appreciated. I'd also like to get a box-blade, tiller, and snow-blower but what sizes to consider and what to look for is a whole other thread... but feel free to chime in if you have something you recommend.

Well, if there are any flaws in my deduction that the Woods is worth the upgrade please stop me soon. :D After writing out the pros I think I've convinced myself that it is. (Sorry for the long post.)

Thanks again (in advance) for any help, Glen

I can't offer any help selecting your backhoe, but I'm curious. We're thinking about the same tractor, CK20S-HST, with the loader - current Kioti deal until 6/30.
Price from dealer is $13,600. Is this comparable to what you're seeing? Priced a Woods BB48X w/slip clutch for $1,800

Welcome to TBN.
I have the larger CK35 with a Woods 70X backhoe. Got both new from the dealer just over 4 years ago. Got the thumb with the BH, use it to lift logs for cutting into rounds and then lifting the rounds onto my wood splitter. The thumb has 7 positions that you have to adjust manually. Had one problem with the Woods a few hours after I got it and must say my dealer and Woods looked after it right away, very happy on how it was handled. Once you have taken off then reattached the backhoe a few times it usually goes fairly quickly and smoothly. Fasted reattach was maybe 4-5 minutes but 10-15 is more common. Good luck on whatever BH you decide on. My Kioti has been great, 393 hours and been very pleased with it.

I don't have any experience with the Woods backhoes yet but that is soon to change, I just took delivery on my 90x last Monday and am in the process of installing the subframe, as for attaching and unhooking it looks quite simple. I decided on the Woods over the Kioti hoe, the Woods was a little more money but not 1000 more in my experience. I decided on the Woods in the end because I have always heard they have good stuff and they have been around a long time, also they are American made, I don't know where the Kioti hoe is made but I assume someone makes it for Kioti and I was more comfortable with buying from the company who actually designs and builds the implements and puts their own name on them, I think you generally get a little better quality and service going that route. Also if you decide to buy from a different dealer or order a Woods hoe online and mount it yourself you may save some money and the Woods installation instructions are great very easy to follow.

Hi,

I bought the CK-20 HST in 2007 with the Woods BH6000. The dealer selected the backhoe.

I had no problem with the Woods however when the new Kioti BH came out for the CK20, I found it was far larger and beefy than the BH6000. I sold my first CK20 and bought the CK20S HST with the Kioti 2465 back hoe. I am very pleased with it.

I take the backhoe off frequently, and it is stored indoors in my barn. Removal is about 4-5 minutes, reattach is about 10-15 minutes depending on how much I try to rush it. When storing, I made up a block about 30" wide and about 7" high I believe that sits under the center of the backhoe. This allows me to turn the arm all the way to the right or left, which considerably reduces the amount of storage space needed. The frame lays low to the floor when detached, so I am able to park a trailer or other implements over it.

I've never had an issue with ground clearance. It's a small tractor, not a bulldozer, so choose your terrain accordingly and you'll never have an issue.

I have a 60" box blade that works very well with the CK20.

Our soil is a lot of rock too. I've pulled out some pretty large ones with the tractor and backhoe. If I can't pull it out, I flag down the next backhoe that drives by and they take it out for a couple of green backs - problem solved, safely and without excessive wear on my tractor.

I am more than happy with the tractor, and have recommended it to many people, including my uncle who has far more experience with heavy equipment. He now has the same CK20S with the Kioti backhoe, and is equally happy with his.

I don't think you will go wrong with either the Woods or the Kioti, and expect you will be very happy with your purchase overall.

Cheers,

Jon

Actually that's pretty much the same if you take the backhoe out of the equation and drop the loaded tires the dealer added in for a no backhoe setup. Likely very close to that. Seemed that dealers near me were not far apart from each other. The dealer did say something about a price increase coming and the loader program ending at the end of the month. I didn't price out mowers though.

Hi,

I bought the CK-20 HST in 2007 with the Woods BH6000. The dealer selected the backhoe.

I looked at the Mccormick version with the BH6000 on it but wanted a hoe with better specs.

I had no problem with the Woods however when the new Kioti BH came out for the CK20, I found it was far larger and beefy than the BH6000. I sold my first CK20 and bought the CK20S HST with the Kioti 2465 back hoe. I am very pleased with it.

I imaging practice will lead to a good system to make on and off better...

I've never had an issue with ground clearance. It's a small tractor, not a bulldozer, so choose your terrain accordingly and you'll never have an issue.

We rented a bigger John Deere and had to move a large pile of dirt around and it was dragging in the rutted areas pretty good.
The logging road we were traveling has some soft muddy spots and my property has springs are all over.
I know I can improve them with some drainage (and will) but that subframe would be an issue anywhere my heavily wooded property collects water and has a spring.

I have a 60" box blade that works very well with the CK20.

That's what I was looking at... The 4ft blade looks too narrow as the rear end is 53"+ wide. I hear you want it slightly wider than the tires.

Jon

Thanks for the opinions and I think the Woods is going to be the one as no one said "Don't do it!!!!!!!" The woods costs more but the subframe is a huge part of that at around $1500  Thanks again for all the help.

I can't speak to the two different backhoes as I haven't bought myself one yet, but I do have a CK20 hst, pulling a 60"" box blade. That makes an excellent combination ,my driveway and trails have never looked better. Your quoted price seems about equal to the price that they are selling for in Ontario.
I am sure you will love it ,they are a great machine.....Craig

I have the ck20hst with 2465 BH. I think it is simple to get on and off. It is big to store and move around, but it is a brute for digging. I think that you need to take the 3pt hitch arms off when putting on the Woods. You can leave them on with 2465, probably no big deal. Get the BIG feet, the BH will move that tractor around pretty good without them.
