Outrageousness like the dining room furniture your feathered fowl friends have in the Chicken House? The corner shelf? Or the nice Chandelier?:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Dan, Dan, Dan... For the last time, there is NO CHANDELIER! and the table has no glass...:laughing::laughing:

You know I used all that junk because it was here, I did not want to haul it off to the dump, and I assumed they would LIKE places to nest... some of them get used for roosting, most not. it will be interesting to see if the cold makes a difference come winter...

But I am making a PsuedoPond for the ducks inside the Chikn Run... I am really looking to find a way to seperate the ducks, because they are shockingly messy with their drinking water... I need to build a Duck Domicile and enclosure by the pond... But I'm not willing to enclose the entire pond... So... Wes shall see...

Well, What happened to Mr. Fox?

Murph,

We've seen no foxes since before Memorial Day. I do have a guinea missing, but we all suspect (and pray) she is brooding on her eggs (which also started dissapearing 3 weeks before she did). The ducks and chickens are safe in the "Chikn Shak & Run" (see pic) we finished Memorial Day.

My neighbor had the same thing occur. Maybe when they get down to one female, instinct becomes overpowering...

But neither have we seen a rabbit, squirrel, etc. I suspect the at LEAST 3 families of foxes have done some damage to the local rodent populations...

I did see, at like 4:30 pm, a giant ground hog in my back yard right next to the deck. He headed north and crossed over my new dry creekbed.

My USMC sniper buddy is planning to come over some friday evening and we will rig up a decoy and a call and see what we can get.

Lots of racoons, they've been getting into my recycling bags...

David

Did you bury the fencing in the ground? It looks like you did.

I need to mow so I can move our Chicken Tank. We had some trees taken down so I can move the Chicken Tank and build the girls a run. I think I need to bury the fence wire and put netting over head to keep out he hawks.

Yes sir! the bottom chicken wire is a 3' wide section buried 12" deep at an angle approx 40 degrees out so diggin critters encounter wire ASAP to discourage them.

Re: I've gotta kill that @#$% Fox!!!

Foxes...............Ok well listen to this.
I spent 25 years of my life managing a 350 Farm/Park carrying 1000 Breeding ewes (Romney) and in latter years founded and managed a stud herd of 65 Simmental cows.
During my time I have shot over 100 dogs mainly German Shepherds of crossbred dogs that would come into the park from the surrounding urban areas and worry the sheep. These attacks would occur mainly on the early hours of the morning , usually two dogs. The worst case was 160 dead sheep over a space of 11 days before I eventually was fortunate enough to be there at the right time right place to use buckshot on them. They were wolflike in behaviour, very cunning. I would wait up every night after attacks, sometimes never managing to get the culprits. These dogs were peoples pets. They had no idea what they got up to or where they got to.It went on and on for years, until Dog Control laws became tighter and I changed the sheep breed to perendales, a NZ breed that were more mobile, and introduced breeding cows that absolutely hate dogs. My nickname for years was wolfhunter and became a very unliked person among the public as I had very little tolerance for dogs off a lead within the paddocked areas. And of course the people whose dogs I mananged to trace beacme very ****. Often the dogs had no registration collars were in disbelief that it was their dogs that would do the damage, until I would get them to come up to my woolshed where i would pile up the sheep with their dead dogs lying along beside them.
The dogs as I said would worry the sheep. perhaps kill 20 -30% of them and leave the rest with wounds around the neck front and back legs. I would simply cut their throats and put them out of their misery. Yes over the years I fixed a lot up with penicillin and Stockholm tar, but they were also a bad look in Aucklands most awesome park.
I operate machinery and tractors now,and no longer am awoken at ungodly hours by those dogs.
The wolves that have taken a strong hold on Yellowstone National Park have interested me for years and have often shook my head when ranchers were complaining of losing a few head of cattle.

Re: I've gotta kill that @#$% Fox!!!

Peoples PET Dogs!

That is outrageous and irresponsible of the owners.

I simply do NOT understand people who think it is OK for their PET to wander all over other peoples property...

In the city I became VERY irritated about the neighbors cats... Grrrrr... Even here, it is almost 1/2 mile to the next house (driving) and I get a couple different house cats wandering about my place at night...

Thanks for sharing.

I have a Kiwi friend in Christchurch... He is a professor & occasional missionary. Great family... Someday I wish to visit NZ

Re: I've gotta kill that @#$% Fox!!!

Evening David............
Yep peoples backyard domesticated dogs. The majority of them came from about 3kms from a lower socioeconmic area where the owners didnt really give a rats arse. We did try to prosecute some of them along the way but gave up as you cant get blood out of a stone.
Im sure that a great number of them shared the same genetics as over the years the incidents decreased and as stated in my last post they were mainly German Shepherd cross breeds , which led me to believe that the alpha ******** visited a lot of bitches around the area.
Hope all is well with you.
And yes you should get on down here one day before its too late..................

Yeah, people have no idea what their dogs are capable of. We had a neighbor's dog come over and kill some of my wife's baby chicks. He is good around the adult hens, so I wouldn't let my wife say anything to the neighbors about it. They are good people and are always giving back to the community, and I'm not going to make them feel bad about the loss of a few chicks.

Cats, on the other hand: I'm a firm believer that they belong outside so that they can earn their keep catching mice. It's pretty hard to keep a cat from wandering off your property. I cut them a little slack, although I do hiss at the neighbor's cats when they wander around my place. One cat attacks mine, so I've been doing some persuading with a little BB gun.
