I wouldn't feel to bad. The xx20 series are awesome tractors. Albeit a 7 year old frame, lots of updates to them and definitely still top tier machine.

I'm sure whatever Deere cooks up will be even awesomer <sigh> I'm picturing lazy-boy seating, GPS Assisted e-hydro, 10,000lb lift capacity, R3/R4 tires that transform when you press a button

Or, maybe they'll load it up with tons of cheap plastic so I can feel good about my brand new old tractor ;)

Partially since I own a current one, I don't need an updated tractor. The current models work well, look good, and I can get parts. I don't like how auto companies change over a perfectly good car after three years because 'the market demands it'. Maybe just me...

yeah, if I already owned one it would be much harder to justify an upgrade, but I just ordered, and am still waiting on the factory to build mine. If waiting a extra month would have meant I'd end up with a significantly better tractor, at the beginning of a new 8 year cycle, then i'll be disapointed.

On the other hand, buying at the end of a product cycle, I would expect most of the bugs have been worked out, and I haven't heard of any major design flaws with the 3x20 series that could only be fixed through a redesign / new model. I also see a trend where new models contain engineering changes designed to reduce manufacturing costs, meaning in some cases cheaper components -- more plastic (though plastic isn't always bad, I did read about some broken plastic knobs on the new 1026R). Also, I suspect new models will also have more costly emissions controls.

As much as it may seem unnecessary to you, they have to make profit somehow. Imagine if car companies decided they just weren't going to produce new models and keep sending out the cars we had 60 years ago!

Sometimes a new model is more economical for a company as well, sometimes one product replaces two, i.e. the newest Cadillac CTS was a morph of the old CTS and old STS, now there is only a CTS sized between the two older models, the single car means less overhead and more profit. JD has had the xx20 model series for 8 years now, in order to re-spark buying interest from previous model owners a new series may get them into the showrooms. There's not much since upgrading to the same thing you already have unless its worn out - which is really hard to do in only 8 years anyway!

You may not need a new tractor, but others might want a new tractor and just the thing they need to purchase is the excitement of getting a new model. The bottom line is these companies are in it to make money and sell their product. Making new products is a way to sell more. Whether you like it or not, it has to be done.

Well I didn't really expect to make a debate out of this. Obviously cars have come along way, I am not trying to live in the stone age. Just saying that for my purposes, I would rather re buy my unit over tier 4 and some updated badging. Ok it is not black and white like that. I would take an air seat standard, higher hydraulic flow, etc, but doubtful to get stuff like that...please don't take me too seriously, upgrading is good, I just mostly like my machine the way it is...

My guess is stricter emissions and a front end that resembles the 6 and 7R series. Everything else stays the same. Just like when they went from the 4000 series to the 4000ten series. Better mechanics but same plastic.

as with any new updated tractor series, their will be lots of bugs to work out (just as with any new model car or truck). So dont feel too bad about it if you just bought a new tractor recently. I have never bought a first year run truck for this reason. Too many tsb's and issues. Got to let them work the bugs out for a couple years. Most of the issues arrise after your vehicle or tractor is out of warranty when you buy a first run

Only two things I would like to see (pertains to both 3000/4000:
-improve range shifting on e-hydros
-some sort of disconnect on loader to speed up loader function independent of direction control-like disconnect button on a big machine. (I'm one of those guys who does NOT operate at max RPM-so would like more loader cycle speed)

I thought the range shift was one of the 2011 improvements? In the video '3X20/4X20 CUTS' at this link they mention it: John Deere Green Carpet
