Hey everyone! It has been a while since the rebuild was completed. I have put about 7 hours on the tractor since then and given it the first post-rebuild oil change, so I wanted to let everyone know how things are going.
I made a quick video with the engine running and exhaust at rev so everyone can hear what it sounds like after some break-in time. I've used it to do some bush hogging, finish mowing and even used the boom pole to lift a FEL into a trailer, which was slightly more than the boom pole was rated for. I got the feeling my tractor was less than happy about lifting that weight, as the hydraulic relief valve was squealing away the whole time as well, haha! So, needless to say it has been fully broken in. One note on the oil change, the oil came out crystal clear, not even a hint of darkness to it. So, it appears even a diesel can run crisp and clean. I hated wasting $30 in 5 hour old oil, but I guess that's just the final cost in engine rebuilds.
I haven't fixed the 1st or 2nd gears yet, but so far I haven't needed to. I did install some rear facing lights on the canopy in order to make using the boom pole at night easier. I notice the alternator is a little tired, as it only puts out 13.5v at high idle and 12.8 at 1,000rpm. A new one will be in my future at some point. No rush until it stops charging entirely.
On a side note, I certainly love the fact it can idle at 1,000rpm, now. It could never do that before the rebuild. Saves on fuel and my eardrums (though I never use it without earmuffs).
Without further ado (best played in full-screen 720p)..
