Yesterday, they announced a fire and burn ban in effect for 7 countys that are along the Miss. river here.. We are in one of them. Fireworks can start fires, especially bottle rockets...Lots of dry pine needles and pinecones around here.. The grass is turning lt. brown...

Most, but not all, towns in this area have city ordinances prohibiting even the possession of fireworks. I don't know how long Dallas has had such, but I know it was already in existence in 1964. And the little town I live in has such an ordinance, but an adjoining town does not. So there are fireworks stands, legalling selling firewords, within 2 miles of my house.

Glad a big storm rolled through here today...:)

In PA we can't set off "aerials" only the "showering sparks" type, so if they do start a fire, it is easy to control if you are prepared (which we always are having a garden hoses, water tanks, and fire extinguishers on standby).

This year is the first year anyone in western KY is allowed to use ALL types of fireworks. Of course, changing a law doesn't prevent forest fires. I'll be sure to enjoy the bright sky on the 4th caused by, not fireworks, but fires. If I'm lucky, the show will spread to my house. My insurance is paid up. All I want to save is my computer and my tractor, haha!

Here, at least, the Fire Department as well as the Police Department has the authority to confiscate fireworks and issue citations to anyone in possession. I have no idea whether they still do it or not, but many years ago, Dallas firemen sat just inside the Dallas city limits and used binoculars to watch fireworks stands outside the City and when they saw someone buy fireworks, then drive into Dallas, they got'em. That upset a lot of folks, of course.

Yeah every idiot here has been out shooting fireworks. I have an old 300 gallon towed spray tank that I use for fire control. Also rigged up a 250 gallon tote with a 12 v pump and spray wand for the back of the pick up. Its just a lack of common sense. THeres also a a guy that lives down the road in the rent houses thats not all there. I was in town yesterday and he was at the fireworks stand and had 4 big bags of fire works. The stands usually set their surplus off in the big parking lot in town.

THats a shame about folks wastine drinking water to keep a lawn green. In town 3 years ago they issued tickets for lawn watering. I had a pump and we drained the water from the bath tub and washer drain to wter the garden and flowers. I also brought home lake water from work.

We are in a burn ban determined by the NWS fire danger level. When the humidity is low and the conditions are right, the NWS issues a Red Flag Warning for our county. I've checked every day on the NWS site and found a couple of orange level days, but no red flag days. I intend to set off fireworks over my new ponds where there is no grass. In case of high winds, I won't set anything off. I'll also have a hose, pump-up sprayer, and buckets ready in case any grass gets going. I wish I could say the same for my neighbors. They worry me because they don't have good fireworks spots like I have.
