Deere Dude,
You had me hoping for a miracle that you had a way to convince a gopher to come out of its underground tunnel, climb a ramp and jump into a bucket of water! Chipmunks and gophers are two entirely different "critters".

Okay, I just googled it and my bad. I thought they were the same. I would try it anyway. It cost a dollar to find out. Plus there are all other intuitive ideas on this thread.

On my old farm place I had a lot of trouble with chipmunks and some gophers.
My best solution was to take a wood board rat trap, bait with a salted peanut tied to the bait pan with a bread bag twist tie.
Be sure to tie down the trap with a length of some kind of cord.

If a carnivore wants to consume the trap contents, fine. I don't want them to drag the trap away and loose it.

To segregate rodents, (keep squirrels out) put the trap in a 1x8 box about 16" long with a 2" hole in the end.

Good luck

How about something like the Rodenator. Propane powered gopher killing...

I'm familiar with the Rodenator and around here it works great for ground squirrels. Another device I've seen is a weedeater power head mounted on a steel plate that sits on top of a gopher hole and sends the exhaust fumes down into the tunnels. I'm getting off thread here...

Quick update, I've had a bucket with the spinning can o' peanut butter in my workshop for a week and have caught four mice so far. I added RV anti-freeze (non-toxic) to the bottom in order to drown them. I hate drowning them, but it's either that or having them bake to death in the 130F workshop.

My house bucket has yet to catch a single mouse. I think they like my dog's food better than the peanut butter :muttering:
