The displacement is the only thing that is the same, nothing else. Just like comparing the two 6.0, nothing is common between them, other than the number.

Get a 7.3 from another truck that IH built.

I've been buying 6.9/7.3 IDI parts from the I/H dealer for years. Examples: valve cover gaskets, glow plugs, glow plug controller, starter solenoids, etc. We're not talking about the 6.0 (or the other PowerStrokes)

I think he is talking about the 7.3 IDI vs the 7.3 Powerstroke.

Thanks guys,

It would only make sense in this case if the Ford engine would have bolted right in and worked with minimal extra work. I doubt anything will happen now as the International is 36 years old, not as solid as I originally thought, and that 446 pulls pretty good even if it does suck the gas! There is a Freightliner up there that will take the dump body so that is more likely a scenario at this point, but not till the hay season is done.

I have come to believe that the similar vintage 444 to the early 7.3 (NOT powerstroke) are virtually identical, EXCEPT the clutch housing, which in this case is the most important part.
