Nah, it smells better in here!
What cleans up the environment is a free republic form of government. Capitalism and private property rights. Small governments and low taxes. For the people of a country to turn its efforts to cleaning the environment they must first have enough profits to turn efforts that way. Poor countries pollute. They are still trying to feed their people. Rich countries clean up and have the excess to do so. Access to cheap energy is key to that. A free market and capitalism is what gives people the distance from basic needs, food, energy, transportation, water, sewage, lights, when those things are basic the clean up can start. Oil, gas, and coal make this place the envy of the world, and we are not giving it up to chase some mythical unicorn alternative fuel source. It also takes a person of great leadership, the same person created the clean water act, the clean air act, the EPA, the endangered spices act and got us cleaned up. His name was Richard Nixon.

Reality is not where a 67 year old guy huddling in his shack covered in solar cells, claiming he is a brilliant scientist, watching the electric meter, lives.
We had more ice melting in Iceland and Greenland in the thirties than we do today, it was warmer and got warm faster in the Medieval Warming Period than currently. The dinosaurs lived on an earth much warmer than this and in none of those periods was man putting enough carbon in the air to effect it. Another funny thing, each of those periods save the 30's which hasn't been long ago enough for us to get a reading yet, have been followed by long and intense cold. Now several scientific groups are starting think we may now be peaking and heading into a major northern hemisphere wide devastating cold period similar to or worse than the Little Ice Age.
But frankly, like all of you passing opinions here, I don't really know.![]()
In the 30's we didn't have towns in Alaska moving because the perma-frost was melting under them.
Lovelock is a legendary guru of the global warming movement, and the author of books entitled The Revenge of Gaia: Why the Earth Is Fighting Back – and How We Can Still Save Humanity and The Vanishing Face of Gaia: A Final Warning: Enjoy It While You Can. It turns out you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy it, because Lovelock, at age 92, is writing a new book in which he admits he was an “alarmist” and all of his earlier predictions were totally wrong.
No, really. Here’s what he says, as reported by MSNBC:
“The problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago. That led to some alarmist books – mine included – because it looked clear-cut, but it hasn’t happened,” Lovelock said.
“The climate is doing its usual tricks. There’s nothing much really happening yet. We were supposed to be halfway toward a frying world now,” he said.
“The world has not warmed up very much since the millennium. Twelve years is a reasonable time… it (the temperature) has stayed almost constant, whereas it should have been rising — carbon dioxide is rising, no question about that,” he added.
He pointed to Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” and Tim Flannery’s “The Weather Makers” as other examples of “alarmist” forecasts of the future.
This is exactly the kind of stuff that gets reasonable people denounced as the equivalent of “Holocaust deniers” by the enraged primitives of the global-warming cult. Later in the MSNBC interview, Lovelock says “I’m not a denier,” even though he did, in fact, just deny the whole rotten anthropogenic global warming con job.
