Rswyan, glad you are getting the coons but even happier they are not becoming someone else's problem. Couple of years ago cought a guy just about to release a raccoon on our private road. Asked :grumpy: why he is bring it our way, so he could kill our chickens :chicken:? Well he left with the raccoon and I followed him just to make sure he kept going.

Sunny :) and clear this morning with a high of 84 coming up. Have to unload 51 sqaure hay bales I picked off the field last evening. Guy I bought them from loaded the trailer while I drove the truck so it was easy on my rotarty cuff shoulder.

76 degrees, 41% humidity. Going into the mid 80's and definitely need rain. Possible this weekend..

Good mornng! A very pleasant 62* here and sunny with a high in the 80's. No rain in the forecast until possibly the weekend. Been out hunting groundhogs the last few mornings. Got one yesterday. Now only 2 or 3 more to go. They can really make a mess of the dirt floor in the shed.

Grumble grumble....groundhogs, moles, raccoons, foxes, possums, etc. Ain't living in the country fun? Do you guys ever wonder why so many worthless four-footed critters were created? Sometimes I do !!!

JD you got to get rid of your cats and get a dog;) I have no problem with possums or raccoons but my mother lives 100 yards away and she has problems all the time. My dog must scare them away and with my mom, she feeds her cats on the porch and the food must attract those pesky animal to her house.

Thanks for input but I never put any food out unless it is in a live trap.

I ate at a Mexican place in Mebane about 10 years ago. I'm from eastern NC and I never knew the town existed before that.:D

Morning Guys!

Hey is anyone else having an issue with TBN sending old email updates?

I am getting a LOT of email updates from TBN that I have recieved before. Yesterday I got like 15 updates emails, and 6 or more were from various dates up to over a month ago. Drive me a little buggy...

Anyway...

It is cooler here, still need some rain at least occassionally please.

I also NEED to move the electric fenc portion of the temporary pasture, this heat and dry (and the horses appetites) has completely killed the grass inside the pasture...

Maybe this weekend...

Also planning a visit to the Caroline County Fair to ride rides and look at animals and TRACTORS!!!!

Be well,
David

07-12-2012 Currently 68 degrees. High of 78 expected. I am going to spread some grass seed and straw over some areas that were seeded before, but due to the past heat wave, the seed didn't germinate. More light rain expected.

86F with an all sunny day. Still managing to get stuff done outside but in the afternoons I do take it easy. Sure glad we have a heat pump, otherwise it would be pretty hard to be on the 2nd floor. The house faces south and is in the sun all day so the upstairs can get a tad warm.

73 degrees and sunny .... headed up to a high in the mid 80's ....

Having our water well brushed and bailed today .... they dropped of the truck last night and should be here around 10:30 or 11:00 to start .... it will be interesting to see how much iron sediment has accumulated in the last 8 years ....

Looks like I didn't succeed in capturing Rocky or any of his relatives last night .... but I know there are more out there .... in fact, I saw one scurrying off into the woods when I went out to bait the traps just before hitting the rack last night .... might need to move the traps to another area of the property and see if I get anything ....

I did manage to get the pipes placed and covered with gravel for my little creek crossing in the woods .... it will be nice to have that route available even when it wet .... still lots of work to do to clean out the ditch to the one discharge pipe and set all the stones though .... thankfully it is largely all in shade (except for the rock picking ) ....

Enjoy your day

Peanut butter on saltine crackers ....

I used white toast instead of crackers the first night because I thought I had tossed all the stale crackers .... found a pack of 'em last night when I went to bait the traps ....

I take and spread a gob of peanut butter on the crackers and then use the crackers to smear some of it on the little plastic dish/tray (Stouffers frozen entrees) I'm going to set the bait in, and then stick the cracker to that - so that the cracker is stuck to the tray .... smear some of it around elsewhere on the tray too .... so they have to futz with it .... hopefully tripping the trap ....

Seems to work good - I've scored the last two nights ....

Problem with cat food is .... you might get cats .... and other stuff ..... although I suppose that is a possibility with peanut butter as well :D

Sweet .... I look forward to the day when we get the deck rebuilt and have some functional space outside where we can relax and entertain ....

It's 80 here too and sunny - I just came in from doing some trimming - managed to break a sweat - think I'm going to find something to do in the shade that doesn't require much effort until later on .... probably move the fill inside the barn ....

More tools are always good

It's nice when they don't keep ya waiting .... too bad on the pergola though ....

Remember: pics .... or it didn't happen :D

It's happening right now, attachments are proof !!! Oh, it's not done yet, the pic showing it completed came off the carton....wish me luck as I am not very mechanical....

Rswyan, glad you are getting the coons but even happier they are not becoming someone else's problem.
Mouse,

Thanks - yeah, I pretty much would prefer to not make my problems someone else's .... hope others would show me the same consideration ....

From just a practical perspective, coon's are a hazard wherever they are, due to the raccoon roundworm issue .... I'm not going to move the hazard somewhere else - where it has the potential to infect other animals (and people) .... and potentially make it's way back to me eventually ....

Until they develop a vaccine for it, I say: Kill 'em all ....

Couple of years ago cought a guy just about to release a raccoon on our private road. Asked :grumpy: why he is bring it our way, so he could kill our chickens :chicken:? Well he left with the raccoon and I followed him just to make sure he kept going.
A few years back I went up on the north end of the property and found a huge pile of construction debris ....

Guy who currently lives on the property that abuts ours there says it was the former resident (a guy I grew up and went to school with) that placed it there .... could be .... although the current resident has mini-ex and dozer ....

All I know is it aint mine and I don't much appreciate it ....

Funny thing is the area is wooded .... and it's a mystery to me how dumping or pushing something 20' further away over the property line in any way "handles" it ....

Never seen that done, does the iron build up enough to cause flow issues? We never did that down in NC when I was a kid either and that water had so much iron you could pick it up with a magnet!:D
