Jinman, thanks for the input but it seems to me if the item was delivered with a damaged box and the contents hanging out, the delivery carrier should have been responsible for obtaining replacement hardware, etc.

Anyone know why this is the case?

Sure.... profit.

If Sears sells 200,000,000 items in a year and includes even 10 cents worth of spare parts (like a few screws, a couple extra buttons on a shirt, etc...) that's $20,000,000 in lost profit.

With the obscene mark up they already have they can easily afford to include 10 cents worth of extras.

Frame is well on it's way to being completed, the whole thing is 10'X12' and it's a b**** getting the frame up with no help...but ladders make a very good temporary support.

Reminds me that a couple years ago, we bought a patio set from KMart (the other Sears). This was on the other side of the island, 80+ miles one way. Rained like heck on trip home, boxes completely soaked. Didn't want to leave the stuff in the soggy boxes so unpacked them, table/6 chairs. Found the directions, but no hardware. Got thoroughly soaked going thru each box - nadda. Called the 800#, nice lady promised to FedEx a set, no charge. Two days later, I take the sodden mess to the dump, so wet it basically falls apart. Imagine my surprise when the hardware pack appears, still taped to the inside of box. Most interesting, the pack did contain an extra or each size screw and nut. Of course I still haven't found a use for the extra pack - yet.

Bill, is that the alum frame model? Bought one of the Lowes about 5 years ago and the Stella has just about rusted away. Canvas top looks like it will outlast the frame.

Sodamo, yes it is mainly aluminum except for the braces at the top pf the frame and the horizontal bottoms of the legs that you fasten down. Surprised me how well it was manufactured I have the entire frame up now and not a single hole was out of line nor were any of the fasteners burred or any of the pre-installed rivnuts out of place or carelessly tapped.

Its nice to be pleasantly surprised once in a while, isn't it? I bought a Brinley lawn sweeper a few years ago. All the parts were individually wrapped on a blister pack board, numbered, etc... Directions were clear and easy to follow. It went together just right. I was extremely happy.

Post more pics when your project is done.
