STP in the HST?

We used STP for assembly lube on our hydraulic rams and packings so I no it won't hurt.

to me it's just snake oil, but i know i'm stepping on a lot of toes almost to the point of religious insult. if equipment manufacturers saw increased benefit, wouldn't they recommend as well? you might post your question as well on the "fuels & lubricants" forum just to see what kind of another oil war might be started...but really, sarcasm aside, why not ask a few Kubota mechanics @ different dealerships their take (not service managers!) good luck, just keep the filters changed and UDT or SUDT and you should be good to go!

It's been some years since I've seen a car engine torn down after the owner used STP, so maybe things have changed, but I agree with you. I not only would never put STP in anything I own, but I'd also never buy any used vehicle if I knew it had ever had STP in it.

When I rebuilt engines regularly, I also used STP as an assembly lube. Never ran it in an engine as an additive, though.

STP should not be used in systems with wet-brakes. Wet brakes require a friction-modified oil so they will function properly. I would not use STP in anything.

Another example of "motor rebuild in a can" ....

And the same may be true for clutch packs, such as are used on some PTO's.

I was told that the Wood brothers used STP so that if an engine blew on like the backstretch at Daytona it would prevent scuffing of the parts when the oil got dumped.
