even a front to back shoulder rig with a fabric holster.. ( I have an east german police rig like this.... cheap setup.. cottage industry looking deal.. some leather bits and buttons and snaps.. lots of elasitic and cord banding. ) even on that setup, the woman would have had to run up hugged him from the rear and grabbed the holster and squeezed it .. alot?

I have one of those t-shirts with the pockets under the arm pits for deep concealment. I hate wearing the thing its a compression shirt and feels like an anaconda is wrapped around me but it is fairly easy to manipulate a pistol in it also. The pistol sits front to back with the grip slightly up at the front and the barrel pointed slightly down in the rear is the best way fwtw.

If a person had a mind to do it (why I cant imagine but just for conversation) is one thing but an accident well thats debatable .

I got chills reading this article because I was wearing that t-shirt at my daughters wedding under my suit and one of her friends gave me a big hug and then a strange look. Oops sorry I said then she understood when I quietly told her what it was!

that's why for super discrete carry i use a nfa legal rear pocket holster that prints like a wallet ( rectangular ).. and a small factor keltec 32 or 380 acp gun.. OER a modified ankle holster to be compatible with my boots.

no one hugs yer ankles.. and most men carry wallets..

You may have read about the 25 year old woman in Detroit killed when she was hugging an armed, off duty cop.

Apparently, she was behind him when she was hugging him..and somehow, the holster was rotated 110 degrees before the discharge. The holster was (per the article) a soft material. The handgun was a S&W M&P .40 Caliber semi-auto,

I just cannot see how this happened unless there was deliberate manipulation of the holster...any thoughts?

I saw that story and the only way I could figure that this could happen is that he had a soft material holster or a holster with the trigger exposed. It had to have been a shoulder holster or he was a giant and she was very short. Then where was she standing when she hugged him? Either the holster was almost to his back or she kinda hugged him off to the side but if so how did she pull the trigger?

The only way I can figure it is that she hugged him by reaching around his chest, which may have moved the holster, so that it pointed at her and then she pulled the trigger. Very odd set of circumstances. My holsters cover the trigger and are hard sided so that the weapon has to be pulled from the holster to use. Maybe as part of the hug she somehow was able to move the pistol out of the holster enough to expose the trigger which she then grabbed. However it happened it is a freak accident.

yep.. shoulder rig.. a horizontal one.. and she was behingd him, hugged him from the rear.. reaced around and puleld the trigger.. that's the only way I can figure it too.

what an odd, odd set of circumstances to make that happen...

Last night I was reading the latest American Handgunner, American Handgunner, which is an EXCELLENT magazine that I highly recommend if you like hand guns. The articles are very well done by some very experienced people unlike so many other gun magazines. The articles are often very funny as well.

Anywho, there was a column about pocket carry and pocket holsters. The author started the article by talking about a friend who was pocket carrying and a key chain grabbed the trigger and gun when boom. :confused2: I find it odd that someone would use a pocket holster that leaves the trigger exposed. The article reviewed a pocked holster that actually stayed in the pocked when the weapon was drawn but the holster only covered half the side of the revolver. There was a length of leather on the right side of the revolver and most of the left side was open. However the trigger WAS protected because the trigger fit into a groove in what looked like plastic. This plastic object fit inside the trigger guard which locked the revolver into the holster and the grove prevented the trigger from being pulled while in the holster.

A similar holster, without the trigger blocker, could easily be manipulated so that the weapon would fire. I expect that American Handgunner will have a article on the accident in question so we will know what happened at some point.

Unfortunately a Lumberton, NC officer was killed this week. He was off duty and saw a suspect with an outstanding murder warrant. He called for backup which arrived and but the officer was shot in the chest and died. The officer's wife was to give birth to a little girl any day now. Very sad. There are a bunch of questions that are unanswered that hopefully American Handgunner will cover.

Incandescent that situation, I would try to always hug

In that situation, I would try to always hug with my arms on the bottom/inside. Fairly easy to do without it seeming weird.

Since I carry in my pocket most often, one of the primary "rules" of pocket carry is to NOT carry anything else in the pocket other then the holstered gun.
Also, never try to reholster a gun in your pocket...pull the holster out and put the gun in it, then put the holstered gun in your pocket.

I carry a NAA .380 guardian in my front pocket w/o a holster all summer. Reason being I ride a motorcycle every day to work. My belt slide holster with the .45 is hard to conceal riding the bike during the hot months or I am wearing shorts after work. fwtw

I used a pocket holster for about 1 day and hated it so bad I put in my drawer to have a place hold it at the end of the day when I go to bed.

Anyway the trigger pull on that pistol is a looong heavy deliberate painful 10-12# it isn't anything like the 5-5.5# a Glock or M&P or XD is or even an LCP is easier. That and I am comfortable with presentation of it because of the shape its not an easy pistol to shoot anyway. I am still very aware of the trigger but it has a finger rest on the bottom of the mag that the pistol can be dug out of the pocket using w/o coming close to the trigger...
