Obed, what was the GPM and the static water level depth of your well when they drilled it?

You said it's a 300' well w/ pump @ 280, so in other words, how many feet of water is on top of the pump?

I just talked to the well driller yesterday. He is going to stop by and give me his "guestement" on depth for my location. We have all water witched the area with coat hangers and so far everyone gets a strong "hit" in the same general area of about a 20' circle. I had never done witching before, but there is a force present....whether it is underground water remains to be seen.

We are not watering the lawn, only the garden. We have 3 hose bib's around the house, one at the well, and one at the garden 200 ft from the house. We have 3 sprinklers in series in the garden hooked to the garden spigot. Watering the garden twice a day for 15 minutes does not appear to be over using the well. We have to remember to turn off the water though. We will get a timer if we can find one that will turn on for 15 minutes twice a day.

Eventually I plan to install a home automation system and will use it to control the watering of the garden. I just need infinite anoints of time for all my projects!

I have one of these puppys. Shop Orbit 1-Dial 1-Outlet Digital Timer at Lowes.com . It does exactly what you are asking for.

M7,We seem to remember the well digger told us we had a 10 - 15 GPM well; I do remember he said that we had a real good water flow and should have plenty of water for a normal house. He might not have been considering watering a garden when he made the comment. Unfortunately, I don't remember the water level depth. Being located on the ridge line, I would be surprised if the water level is anywhere close to the top.

Good luck on your well. Digging a well seems to be a shot-in-the-dark. When I was a kid, my parents built their house on the farm 300 ft from my grandparent's house. My grandparents had wonderful clear, good tasting water in their well. Our well, when dug, produced the strongest iron water I've ever seen. The water tasted bad and stained everything it touched. Our white clothes turned copper colored. You just don't know what you'll end up with until you've already sunk the dollars into the job.

My grandmothers well, shes passed and it is now my farm property well, but anyway had i think 3-5 GPM as the driller said. It was really deep for the area (dont remember the depth, the old well was like 45 foot hand dug or something) and thats all the water it got. She would water for 30 mins to an hour in the summer with a hose, never had a problem with pressure reduction. She did not run sprinklers let alone 3 of them but she put a spray nozzel on her hose and sprayed it by hand.

I'd call the well digger and have them check their records just for piece of mind. Write the info down someplace in case you ever have the pump out you can check to see if anything has changed.

Yep, it's a crap shoot, and I still argue with myself whether or not to drill a well or have a path dozed 1500' horizontal & 200' down across a heavily rocked slope, install a 500 gallon tank, pipe, wire and pump down at our artesian spring. I would go the spring route, except I am pretty sure getting a pipe below the frost line would be almost impossible in several places.

At least you have a choice, and that is a good thing Tony

I installed some angle brackets to provide some lateral support to these 6x6 posts in preparation for putting up wire cable railing on the porch.

The 2x6 posts were notched out 3" deep on 2 sides in order to install the double rim joists. Unfortunately, when you remove 3" from two sides of a 5 1/2" post, you only have a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" post left, thus the angle brackets.

After installing the first angle bracket, we found that the deck board did not lay flat on the framing so my wife routed out the bottom of the deck board. In order install the second bracket, I notched the framing with a wood chisel then installed the bracket flush into the notch.

To install picture frame deck board that overhangs the framing, we installed some angle brackets under one side of the board and toe-nail screwed the other side of the board from underneath. From the top of the decking, you cannot see any nails or screws. We are using the Trex hidden fasteners and toe-nail screwing the boards around the edges of the porch where the hidden fasteners don't work. Using the hiddden fasteners takes much more time to install than using a nail gun. I would probably be ok with using a nail gun but my wife didn't like the nail gun approach or screw from the top approaches. Happy wife - happy life!

Most of that plactic wood, the screws will "burn" into the wood when counter sunk and the plactic will kind of "heal" around it. Still blemishes but no heads visible.

You should not have a problem on a screen porch in the shade but those plastics are know for failure and looking horrible in the coming years. I work for a federal agency. We "own/maintain" lakes (should give you an idea who im talking about). We put "plastic wood" on many of our courtesy docks back about 4 years ago. It was a company now out of business and made it out of recycled plastic. Long story short all those dock have either be re decked/condemed or on a list to be repaired. Many of them (at least 2 I know of) have had folks actually fall thru the decking (possibly the company over exadurated span length). But its flaking up all over the place as well. I have heard others who have actual Trex brand say they never again will buy or use it. Its ugly dosent look right and does not wear like they say it does. This is mostly in exposed deck situation or on docks. But the ones i know of with it on a dock will go back with AL. I think we will go back on govment docks wil AL. Should of done it in the first place but the wanted to look "green" well now were stuck with tons of defective product that has give half the life that wood would have given.

Yours should be fine in an enclosed porch with shade though?
