Pray I changed the oil and filter in the transmission and the oil was a light grey in colour. The vent to the transmission was open and able to breath. My question is where did all the moisture come from? The tractor gets used enough to evaporate the water, so why didn't it? Is this common with this transmission?
Any ideas I would appreciate it.

however it got in is unimportant at this point.

flush with some diesel in that oil.. change filter.. repalce with utf

Moisture gets in when the transmission cools it sucks in air and mositure. Unlike motor oil most transimission oils I have been told abosrb water, which seem to be my own experience also.

One note, this winter seems to have been a very bad one around here for moisture issues (I see your location is NY). Everything from our discbine, and all of our tractors come spring had issues with water in the oils. I ended up changing the fluid and filters in everything. Even things that were in the shed and not run over the winter. The trans on our 6605 that we have had for 8 years should have gone till next spring going by the hours and past history. Yet the fluid took in too much water this winter.
