My 1995 Ford F350 diesel shuts off when cold. It will run for 5 minutes idiling perfectly then shut off.
I will restart and go through the whole process again.

The truck will shut off several times or kind of stall when running till the temperature gets to operating temp.
After reaching running temp. no more issues.

Anybody have any insite on the issue?

The 7.3 is a simple motor. 9 times out of 10 its fuel related and the other time its the cam position sensor. You need to check your fuel pressure to see what is going on.

How do you check the fuel pressure?

You need to find a diesel shop or get a pressure test set and the specs for your truck and check your fuel pump.

isnt the 95 the IDI engine?... been a while so I cant remember... but was thinking it was IDI mechanical... If its the Huei version, definitely, replace the position sensor... if its IDI, check the shutoff relay/circuit..

1995 All Fords were offered with a 7.3 Direct Injection Turbo Diesel aka Powerstroke.

In 1994 You could buy a 7.3 idi naturally aspirated, or a 7.3 idi with the factory installed ATS turbo, or the 7.3 DI Powerstroke. However the Powerstroke was only offered in a manual transmission in 1994.

Back when I had a 1995 PSD and followed the message boards, it seems like the CPS was always the most common issue to cause an engine to die.

Another vote for the cam position sensor. Funky oil and fuel related issues usually result in poor operation all together. The CPS just allows it to run (and run just fine) or not. My father had a 95 and that seemed pretty common. I towed it home once with my F150 (the F350 dump was loaded). :)

Another thing to check is the fuel selctor switch if you have dual tanks. We had issues with that not kicking the correct fuel pump on. Truck would start and die, draining the fuel filter housing of fuel.
