15-Ton Tractor Does a Number on Police Cars

VT ain't Iowa. If you get a bigger tractor then that here the tires will stretch all the way across the valley and ride up on the hills on each side. One pass and you are done.
He was going to have it confiscated anyway along with the land he was growing the pot on so his life was pretty much gone as he knew it.
I was going off what we have around here. Many local farms have at least one 8 wheel articulated tractor and a few run 12 wheel articulated tractors (mainly for packing silage).

He needed to quit smoking so much of his crop.. I think his tractor and his land and all of his assets (If he has any) should be confiscated to help pay for the damaged police cars.

It's not his tractor. He "borrowed it". The farmer it belongs to made it clear he didn't have permission to use it.

That's funny! Very true though... A tractor that size takes up 2/3 of our roads up here.

I was in Newport that day...drove down that stretch of road around noon, must have just missed it. As someone else mentioned, no one pays any attention to a tractor driving down the road in Vt's Northeast Kingdom.

Gotta feeling this guy is going to have free room & board for a while courtesy of his friends in the Sheriff's dept.

Same here, usually they are at least a foot over the yellow line to avoid taking out mailboxes.

I wonder if they were even his plants. It is very very common in that neck of the woods to have third parties plant on your land. If you resist their incursions onto your property you will be threatened.

Maybe that's why he sooo pissed off at the cops.

Thread drift for a moment...

??? Do these "third parties" just cut your fencing and bring their pot-growing supplies and equipment onto your land to set up shop? Do their threats take the form of booby traps or guards with guns? And how do the local cops handle this if it's so common?

Very scary stuff. And, hey, thanks to what I read in the replies, I now know what an articulated tractor is!

Hells Angels in these parts. They basically tell you what they're doing, and you had better like it. The cops in Eastern Quebec have dedicated squads who spend all their time pulling these plants out of the middle of corn fields. They are apparently very easy to detect from the air.

We were working near Granby Quebec, and this QPP squad shows up with a cube van stuffed to the roof with plants they had pulled that morning... it was pretty entertaining to watch them walk into the field with a gps receiver and re-emerge with a handfull of plants!

We also worked out of Chehalis many moons ago, and the DEA was posing as geophysicists while they sought out grow ops on the forestry roads... the same roads we were using to plant our instruments! Did not give us a good feeling that we were probably being watched by the growers as we worked.

I just saw the story in today's paper and came in to see if anybody had started a thread about it. How sad....people like that moron give us responsible and law abiding tractor owners a bad name....
