I traded my Kubota 500 in for a new Gator 825i yesterday.....guess I crossed the line now. It seems like a nice compromise of work and play.

The little RTV 500 really held it's value though...I got $2400 less for it 2.5 yrs later than what I paid for it....that's pretty dang good for a side by side. :2cents:

I don't know who actually makes the Gator, but they sure look better than the older models and a lot more versatile.

They handle a lot different too....compared to when I bought my RTV 500 the Gators had come a long way....if they had been built like they are now back then I would have given them a lot more consideration.

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought, "Wow, didn't know they had the Internet up there."

I'll be very interested to hear how your fuel consumption is with the new machine, compared to the RTV500. JD specs the 825i at 0.7 GPH with a half load at "average" speed, whatever that is.

Let us know. ;)

Misfire

It's not going to be good....the RTV 500 sips fuel....this thing will gulp it. Going to be filling up after each trip with this one I'm afraid. My RTV 500 would go for so long you'd think the gauge was broken...I think it was the best thing I've ever owned as far as fuel consumption....very cheap to operate.

Congratulations. Here's wishing you many enjoyable hours using your new machine.

Just wondering why you switched???

The main reasons were that I wanted better suspension travel so when riding down rough trails I wouldn't get bounced around so bad...the Kubota was limited in that aspect.....I wanted more ground clearance so I wouldn't get hung up so much and I wanted more speed for when I hit a good trail I could cruise along. The Gator tops out in the mid 40's where as the RTV topped out at 23 gps.

The RTV is a great machine but I believe the Gator will be better for what I want to use it for which is trail riding as well as snow plowing and pulling trailers. The RTV 500 is a snow plowing animal but for trail use the suspension is just not set up right.

Dixie, how could you? A traitor... What is this world coming to?

On the other hand, I bet you turn that Gator into a snow plowing devil in Maine this winter.LOL!
