i'm not gentle with mine either. i do have 1 nice makita I treat well.. but for a tractor resto or grungy welding work.. I like a beater I can really use the bajeebers out of.
every time harbor freight has a 9$ sale on them.. i grab a couple.. I can usually get a couple years out of a 9$ unit before it needs work.. then I toss it into a bucket. after a couple years I'll grab 2-3 out of the bucket, andthen make 1-2 out of them / rebrush and go.. works out good that way. so far I got my good makita, and 1 frankie, one still running hf 9$ job, and 2 9$ jobs in box waiting to be tapped as needed.

Boy do I wish the nearest HF wasn't 180 miles away. That traveling tool sale that comes by yearly is another place to get a good deal if you are lucky and don't get a dog. I think they sell Cummings brand, not at all to be confused with the US company. Cheap Chinese to be sure but they sell this one small 4" m It is the model made of metal that is wimpy and slightly smaller than the rest.. The thing is grand for cleaning welds and general cleanup for a crazy reason. ITS SO QUIET YOU DON'T NEED EAR PROTECTION. I had 2 of em the first lasting 7 to 8 years and the second giving up the ghost in 1 but boy they are nice for the everyday small stuff. I wish the rest of them made a wimpy quiet model. I used that thing constantly for cleaning contacts and welds ect. and as long as you didn't lean on it they were great especially with the trigger instead of stupid safety switches. Gotta get another someday. My advice for the travelling tool store is to plug yours in either right there or immediately at home and if it sounds rough take it right back. Both of mine were a MINT GREEN color and just had a simple black trigger.
