Makita 9005. its a 5 inch. Darn near bulletproof and used alot in industry. Still canadian made too!! Price is right, usually $125 or so on promo.

Money no object? I love Walter/Metabo products.

My 4.5" is a Hitachi and its held up very well. Its about 15 years old. Cant speak to the current generation Hitachi. I hardly ever use it now, the makita does most jobs.

One thing worth noting here for you guys with the Name brands. Replacement parts are available on the net pretty cheap,. I leaned on my dewalt demo saw a year ago and it broke in half. The thing needed the whole plastic pistol grip which used to be impossible to get. A quick search of net land and I found a replacement assembly for $20 which I considered very reasonable. They had all the parts to rebuild mine as well as most of the other major brands. I can't say where I got em, it's been that long but they are still out there.

They sure do. The HF cost me $60 I think and lasted 4 or so years and did cut as well and as straight as the Makita does. Like all other HF electronics it's always the switch or the brushes goes South. In this case it was the brushes and of course that extra set they throw in as a teaser didn't fix the problem. DOA. Those 14": need all the help they can get because like a chain saw they live a horrible life. Constant ingestion of abrasive particles UGHHH. I'm surprised that they don't put an air filter of some sort on them like a Desktop Computer sometimes has, just to tone down the crud some.

no way i'd pay 60$ for a hf grinder.. 1/4 to 1/3 that on a big one maybee.. at 60$ you are getting too close to real money for a real tool.

I just bought 2 more 7 amp Dewalt 4 1/2" grinders to replace one identical to them. I am not gentle to my grinders and the last one stayed with me for 5 yrs. I figured that was good enough to me. I gave around $60 apiece for them. I hope to get as much use out of these as I did the old one. ( lol)

i'm not gentle with mine either. i do have 1 nice makita I treat well.. but for a tractor resto or grungy welding work.. I like a beater I can really use the bajeebers out of.

every time harbor freight has a 9$ sale on them.. i grab a couple.. I can usually get a couple years out of a 9$ unit before it needs work.. then I toss it into a bucket. after a couple years I'll grab 2-3 out of the bucket, andthen make 1-2 out of them / rebrush and go.. works out good that way. so far I got my good makita, and 1 frankie, one still running hf 9$ job, and 2 9$ jobs in box waiting to be tapped as needed.
