Went to an orthopedist to have my ankle examined. Basketball injury 24 years ago (high school) has my ankle a little unstable. First words out of the orthopedist mouth were "wow you really trashed that ankle". Been getting along fine all this time,(even ran track and cross country in college with zero problems) but lately its been nagging at me. Apparently I had a "high anlke sprain" back then and treated it the old fashioned way (Ice, elevation, rest, bandages). I thought it was ok. Apparently now I have joint laxity and some bone spurs, and some ligaments streatched or torn. Scheduled for a consult with an ankle specialist. What I want is to NOT have this ankle be the limiting factor on my outdoor activities 20 years from now. I really wish I had seen a doctor when I sprained it so badly but I did not. Anyway, Im looking to hear from anyone who has undergone any sort of surgery for ankle stabilization etc. Id like to hear about your experience. thanks

Pharnvet. My wife had polio in 1943 and effected right side and caused the leg and foot to quit growing. The orthopedist preformed surgery to allow her to be able to walk and put pins in her ankle to strenghten. age 12 again surgery to lenghten leg. and she is able to walk with out to much of a problem. and never gives in to health problems. the body adjusts to most all health conditions.
Find the best surgen and get the ankle corrected. will be a year before you step with out remembering the caution of former pain. But worth the effort.
Had my heal repaired thought all nerve endings were in this one area. today can work on my feet all day and never think of the leg.
