You couldn't give me a pickup with an auto. Diesels were meant to lug and nothing beats a Cummins with a load behind it and a manual trans.

I can't stand autos, even the new ones. That being said, according to the recent reviews, the current Allison is in a class of its own.

This is why I took my 1999 F25 7.3 PU with 6 speed through the shop for a little rust repair and paint. 191K mile and running strong. It is turned up a bit (old superships microtuner with MBRP exhaust/ free flowing intake and guages). It pulls well and is a blast to drive!

i will say that if buying a new rig, the autos are so well matched to keep the truck in its torque range, that an auto would be the best choice regardless if a manual is an option or not. (Just not as fun! I just picked up a 2012 Jetta TDI wit 6 speed as my commuter car-Yhessah!)

Yeah I was pretty sure Ford held on to the manual until the new series in 2011. They were pretty scarce towards the end, though.

Only GM gasoline truck with an Auto-shifter worthwhile is the 8.1 L mated to an Allison trans. Too bad they stop production years ago. If you find a 8.1 Auto-shifter ... buy it !

hey hosspuller i begg to differ an 8.1 s a gas hog a buddy had one i have a 2011 6.0l 3500 srw 4.11 it pulls anything a want i goss ount 20k on the scale it pull it the truck wirghts 6600ibs dry and they eat oil a quart in 2k miles
