I am considering the purchase of a MILLER SPECTRUM 625 X-TREME Plasma Cutter and need some advice on the air requirements. The specs. call for 6 SCFM (170 L/min) at 90 PSI MIN (621 kPa) 120 PSI MAX (828 kPa). My compressor indicates a capacity of 5.2 SCFM @ 90 PSI and it has a 30 gallon tank. Will it be sufficient to run the 625 and if not what kind of problems will I see with the smaller compressor? Thanks

I have a 5-HP, 175-PSI, 80-gallon compressor, so I never run out of air with my plasma cutter. I would think that if you don't have enough air, your plasma cutter will get a error and shut down. If this is true that will be a huge pain in the azz!

Are you going with an air dryer?

Length of (spec) burn/cutting time will be the issue! You could adapt/overcome by cutting then waiting for the compressor to refill.

Yes I am planning on using the recommended air filter for the unit. Assume that is considered an air dryer.

Why not buy a cutter that is within specs of your compressor?
It looks close enough to work but you may have to wait a lot.

I am wanting to cut at least 1/2 inch with ease so need the larger machine. I purchased a Hypertherm 45 so will see how it works with my compressor. Thanks for the input.

Maybe a YouTube video to follow? Or at least pictures?

Thanks and congrats on the purchase of a great machine

The 325 xtreme will cut 1/2 fairly easily. In fact, I have done it on 120V. 240, works fine. It' isn't zip fast, but on 1/2", you'll need an 60 or 80 amp to do that fast.
