Here in the Southern IN area, we are having big issues with bug bites. Not sure exactly what they are but they act like chiggers, all ichy and all. A friend near by said, Turkey mites. Turkey mites are actually star ticks that bite in larval stage vs. adult stage.

what's the word in other areas?

Here in the Northern Neck of Virginia we are being eaten alive by chiggers and no-see-ums. The no-see-ums leave little raised welts that look like a chigger bite but there is no center hard spot. They itch intensely but the itch is gone by the next day - unlike the chiggers that itch for several days.

In Louisiana we are having an outbreak of what I call the state bird - mosquitoes - an annual thing this time of year .

I've heard tell that the increase is due to the mild winter we experienced this season. I am just getting over a bad attack of 'no-see-ums'. It was almost as bad as a spell of poison ivy:eek:

It's been a buggy year here. The black fly season was shorter than usual because it went from cool and wet to dry and warm quickly. The deer flies came early and have been real pests all summer.

I have been picking horm worms off my tomatoes the past week and fighting squash bugs on the pumpkins. This is the first year I've had either of those bugs, but I have only gardened here for five years, maybe they just finally found me  The Japanese beetles are more numerous this year than ever too.

We have been getting regular rains and the mosquitoes take over the torturing duties from the deer flies after sunset.

I killed one last night that had two wood ticks on it, it was a double swatter to say the least!

Haven't notice anything unusual in this part of SE Indiana for this time of year. Ticks, Chiggers, Deer Flies are waning but mosquitoes are increasing. A few cases of West Nile Virus and Encephalitis have been reported.

We just had 10 inches of rain, so mosquitoes are everywhere.

No .... it's actually been a very mild year here, in terms of biting insects .... no-see-em's, biting flies, mosquitoes .... none of them have been particularly bad .... probably due to the lack of rain.
