Rotary Cutter How often do you adjust your rotary cutter slip clutch?

I adjust mine when it slips. Tight enuf that it will stall the the Kubs or the JD tractors. Still slips fine on heavy impact loads and you can feel some warming after stalling on a stump or such. The 7520 has too much power and would break the bushog if I adjusted it that [stall] way for it.

Don't you live on an island around salt water? I would think in that type of setting it might take adjusting more often.

I admit, I have never adjusted any of mine (3) in over 12 years of mowing 40+ acres of orchard every year.

I suppose I should take a look at them, just for sihts and giggles

Yeah. Amazing how unecessary it is to be real attentive to them ... unless theyre adjusted too loose.;)

I've been lazy and haven't adjusted mine in years, have not thought about it. Thanks for the reminder.

Here in Texas, our slip clutches get worked out quite regular on fire ant mounds. I've never adjusted mine :ashamed: Mine gets stored under cover. I've only had it 20 years though...

we have plenty of ant mounds and gopher mounds.. and mole holls... plus the off bit of garbage the neighbiors donate by tossing over your fence in the tall grass for you to then hit with the mower.

OH.. did that today.. some 2" pipe scraps someone didn;t need :(

My problem is rocks. Shale rocks grow like a Spring crop each year with freeze/thaw so I hit rocks that I could drive over the previous year.

I loosened the clutch by half a turn yesterday but still pulverized some rocks without slipping today. I'll back off more and try again.

I don't use my cutter very often and it sits for long periods so I adjust it before every use.

I'm surprised that some of the guys reporting here who rarely adjust don't suffer the consequences of a rusted clutch and no shear bolt. Perhaps they do slip the clutch in regular use and it is dry enough that rust is not an issue.
