45 vs 50 hp

I thought the lift (FEL and 3PH) ratings were the same for all three, too.

If the engine bore is the same it could be just the carb has a bigger jet? I know they do this to mower engines. They will say its a 19hp when all they did was jet UP the 17hp engines' carb.

IS this the situation with the 45 and 50?

No. The spec sheets for all the different models and the engines are on the Kioti site.

i had the option of EX45 or EX50, i went the EX50 option for the extra 5 hp and the fact that it uses larger diameter tyres, for the scrub work i use it for the bigger tyre climb over rocks,logs etc better. have never looked back has done everything i have ever asked of it.

Does the loader on the 50 Hp tractor have larger diameter pistons or higher psi settings on it's relief valves?
If not and the 40HP can deliver enough psi to trip the relief valves then the loaders will lift exactly they same weight but perhaps not at the same speed.

Yes! Since these tractors are almost identical they probably use the same hyd pump and loader. Thus loader capacity and speed would be identical on each. The weaker engines would just use a larger proportion of their power on the hydraulics. It wouldnt be noticed in many situations.

According to my handy-dandy brouchure, the DK40 has a displacement of 121.98 gross hp 41, DK45 - 134.06 gross hp 45, DK50 - 148.59 gross hp 49. Hydraulic system are all max capacity of 2493, pump capacity all the same, and have the same capacity when using the KL401 FEL. Frankly, I would have gotten the DK40, but the DK45 was less money from a different dealer, so I went that way.

You will have about 10% more power for the occasional job that needs it, like lifting a big rock. When you don't need it, it will cost you a tiny bit more in fuel as the motor is bigger and has bigger friction losses. Trailering will be the same as the weights are nearly the same.

My preference is to get the most power allowed by my other constraints (mainly towing capacity).

Lifting a big rock is limited by loader capacity not horsepower. The 40,45 and 50 would all lift the same.

The only real differences i can think of would be in max PTO power, max speed up hill in high range, and max pulling power assuming traction is not a limiting factor. The other consideration for cab models is that the A/C would eat up a few HP on summer days so a 45 with A/C would functionally be like a 40 non cab.

As others have noted, the only differences besides decals and price between the three models is the piston size and bore and stroke. Everything else is identical. Catalog weight differences and other minor measurement differences are either error or simply due to changes in all three over time. For example, early DKse models have a different design and construction of the FEL support bracket from newer versions but those changes affect all 40/45/50 models at the same time.

The only reason I can think of for going the extra hp is to drive implements.
For instance my DK45c falls just a tad shy of the minimum recommended 50hp needed for this particular boom mower I had my eye on.
'course, like boats, you sometimes come down with five-foot-itis. That is, the next bigger size always looks better.
