45 vs 50 hp

I found that out today as I called around. The one nearest me was cheaper.

What is an EX?

In Australia they are just called Daedong's not Kioti's. And the model numbers are different.. Different things for different markets. All pretty much the same tractors.

Have not read whole thing but this might help. I bought a 255 massey in 1980 and turned it into a 265 a year later after the waranty was out. 255 and 265 same tractor with different enjectors. 265 cost $2500 more BUT only cost $200 to change injectors. :2cents:

Yep, it apparently costs about $5000 to machine a different bore size when assembling a DK50 engine than with a DK40.

The tractor marketeers are just learning from the auto industry. All the cost of manufacture is in the base vehicle and all the profit in the lux models.

'.

I've been eyeing Rhino boom flail mowers, which boom mower are you looking at if I may ask?

The only reason I can think of for going the extra hp is to drive implements.

'course, like boats, you sometimes come down with five-foot-itis. That is, the next bigger size always looks better.

Well, the problem is if your gonna try to be exact, the HP gross on the DK 50 is actually 49. The PTO on the DK50se is 41 hp, so it still falls a little short.

I have an 07 DK45SE HST. This summer I cleared 1/2 acre of woods and boulders to get a bigger lawn. My limitation was loader capacity and tractor wt. not power. I bought used and found the 45. Otherwise I would probably have the 40.

Speaking of boats and engines, I bought a Yamaha 225HP 4 stroke this spring. All the way up to 300HP in that engine the weight is exactly the same. It was my understanding that they would have bored out the 225 for the 250 and 300HP engines, but some have suggested that the larger HP is accomplished by the engine's electronics. This would account for the same weight, but so would larger pistons and larger bores.
I mention this because as far as getting more HP from a Kioti diesel it seems they are tapping the consumer hard for the extra HP when in all likely hood they could sell the 50 for close to the 40 as far as $ goes. Your opinion may vary.

Get the most you can afford. When did you last hear someone say "I wish I had less HP." HP is much more than piston or stroke size. When I went to Charlotte Motor Speedway for a NASCAR rescue class we drove over to the gocart track. They had to start with a stock 5 HP B&S or Honda motor. Taking out the restrictor plate and changing to racing pistons and valves (for strength, same size as stock) gave them 60 HP. They did 60 MPH on the straight stretches of the gocart track. Same for the Cummins 5.9 when we wrote specs for an ambulance. Same motor, electronics and fuel injection changes gave it a 175-275 HP range in a Freighliner business class chassis depending on GVWR and application.

In Kioti's case however, the difference truly is just the displacement with everything else the same. They charge extra for deeper and wider boring and piston size. That's it.

I'd pay a bit more for more HP but I cannot recall more than a few moments during the past five years that any task would have gone quicker with more HP. And, there were zero tasks that could have been done only if I had more HP. On the other hand, there are many tasks that go quicker and that can be done ONLY because I could purchase additional specialized implements instead of spending the dough on extra HP. Two or four rxtra thousand can buy a lot of useful implements.

With the increase in Global markets, seems the price of products is less related to the immediate cost of production. You need to take the time in estimating the value of something to your particular needs and what your priorities are with HP, Transmission and implements.
