styrofoam vent shoots, we have them in our attic, can you spray foam over them or should they be removed? we were thinking about getting the roof sprayed eventually (a-frame roof 10/12 pitch)

Since adhesion to something is critical to resist the weight of the insulation I would say the vent shoots would need to come off.

Forge, if using spray foam pull the baffles out and spray directly to sheathing.

I'm thinking of insulating my ceiling with spray in foam too. I have 2X10 rafters and a vaulted ceiling. The ceiling sheetrock will mount to the 2X10s directly.

With the sprayed in foam that adheres to the underside of the roof sheathing, what happens if the roof leaks? Seems it would go unnoticed and rot the roof deck.

Yes, that's a downside to spray on foam.

You must periodically inspect your roof and any sidewall transitions to be sure everything's still servicable. And correct any probs immediately.

One possible solution would be to add a new layer to the roof that created a space between the old roof and the underside of the new roof. Not an inexpensive solution, but would add appreciably to the ability of the roof keeping everything cool below (I've read that creating a space for airflow underneath the roof deck is equivalent to having a tree shading your house during the summer. Personally I would only consider going this route if the roof was already in need of reroofing, but not having to rip the interior ceiling out could be considered an advantage as well in factoring the cost as well as the energy savings over time.
