Hi

I'm Kevin, retired collision investigator from England now living in France. Just sold my Husqvarna lawn tractor and replaced it with a John Deere X748 4 wheel drive micro. Had it 2 weeks now and we are towards the end of a 3 month dry speel with no rain and no grass growth so haven't really assessed its capabilities as yet. I am very impressed with the build quality although it was expensive enough so should be good. Yanmar diesel engine seems refined enough and engaging the cutters at full revs is a scary experience first time, like standing on top of a jet engine. Have been looking for a "vintage" tractor off and on for a while, but they are very expensive here. The only cheaper ones are when a French farmer thinks its useful life is finished which is probably 3 or 4 years after its useful life was finished, they don't like to change things unless they are almost dead. Put a bid in on a John Deere of 1971 vintage but was beaten by a French farmer!!. I may have the chance of a early 50s Farmall Cub with a very tired petrol engine and will need to find out who made the engine and what parts may be available for it before I take it on. Oddles of charecter and until recently has been dragging a 15 foot trailer through the woods full of logs, this has probably caused its final lack of power. Will post again when I know whether to buy it. Anyone any experience with this type of engine?

Regards
Kevin

Bienvenue!

You will increase your chances of getting useful info about Cub engines if you post your question(s) here: Farmall Vintage Tractors

Hi Kevin. Welcome to TBN. Don't be offended, but everytime I hear someone say they are from France this picture gets stuck in my head.

They are the coneheads on Saturnday Night Live. They tell people.. "We are from France"

There are many knowledgable tractor owners here on TBN that are more than willing to share thier experiences with you. Take care.

Welcome to the forum! Great looking John Deere Rider! What size of tractor do you need? I would look at this company in France, and try an Iseki. They are also a Japanese Tractor, and they are a world leader, and these older Iseki's are bomb proof, run like little tanks, and will last forever. The price is very good, even for the Euro. Welcome to the group!

The funny thing is Mitch, I don't need one exactly just have an interest and have 5 acres of mixed land to play on with it.
