Hi
I'm Kevin, retired collision investigator from England now living in France. Just sold my Husqvarna lawn tractor and replaced it with a John Deere X748 4 wheel drive micro. Had it 2 weeks now and we are towards the end of a 3 month dry speel with no rain and no grass growth so haven't really assessed its capabilities as yet. I am very impressed with the build quality although it was expensive enough so should be good. Yanmar diesel engine seems refined enough and engaging the cutters at full revs is a scary experience first time, like standing on top of a jet engine. Have been looking for a "vintage" tractor off and on for a while, but they are very expensive here. The only cheaper ones are when a French farmer thinks its useful life is finished which is probably 3 or 4 years after its useful life was finished, they don't like to change things unless they are almost dead. Put a bid in on a John Deere of 1971 vintage but was beaten by a French farmer!!. I may have the chance of a early 50s Farmall Cub with a very tired petrol engine and will need to find out who made the engine and what parts may be available for it before I take it on. Oddles of charecter and until recently has been dragging a 15 foot trailer through the woods full of logs, this has probably caused its final lack of power. Will post again when I know whether to buy it. Anyone any experience with this type of engine?
Regards
Kevin
