Have you looked at the new 5Ms? Maybe a 5100M or a 5115M would suit you, or even the 6M possibly a 6105M/6115M/6125M. But they are a bit expensive, but a 6430 Premium or not still would be pretty pricey.

I haven't looked over the John Deeres too close in person yet as I am trying to familarize myself with them first. The Farmall 95 with cab and loader is around $46k. It is a basic tractor though and while I would love to go all out with options on a premium Case-IH or John Deere it just isn't required. As long as it has a decent cab, good seat, FWA and starts when I need it to then I am happy. The only electronics I need will be tied in myself for the baler. So I am going to say I don't need the 6430 Premium and want to concentrate more on the more basic models Deere has to offer.

This isn't a Deere specific issue, I buy parts from Agco, Deere, CNH and Bobcat and all of them have some parts that are like that where you just scratch your head in amazement that they are charging that much but they all also surprise me as I have to have the parts guy double check the price as it seems way too cheap for what I am getting. So parts are not a concern for me, its just part of the business that I have gotten use to.

To point to one example, I needed to buy mesh clean out gates for my John Deere 3300 harvester that is 35 years old roughly. I called up Deere and not only was I able to buy them all still (these were not standard equipment, just an option to replace the solid gates) but they were incredibly inexpensive. So you never know until you actually price the part.

I purchased a new 5105M a year ago. My use is limited to haying and cattle so I can't speak about tillage use. I have pulled a 10ft disc and 14ft field cultivator but you can't even tell they're behind you. I would think that I could pull a 16ft disc but not sure. The tractor has plenty of power, seems to be fairly easy on fuel, the cab is very comfortable, and it is easy to manuever around. The ride is a bit rough but I recently let some more air out of the tires and that really helped. The "M" series is mostly all electronic controlled so you might check out the "E" series.

Thanks, do you know if any of the 5000 series Deeres offer 34" or 38" rear tires? I started checking online but so far only see 30" as max size.

Mine are 18.4 x 30. I was mostly interested in the width so I didn't explore if the 34" tires was an option when I ordered mine.

Yeah but you know what, like our independent mechanic told us not long ago is the that JD still carries more parts for older equipment than any other farm equipment company. Our family definitely doesn't bleed green but my wife is getting a bit tired of driving an hour or more to get stuff for the International and CaseIH stuff when there's JD and Kubota dealers around within 10 minutes of the farm. I believe I read the other day on here or somewhere else that a guy paid close to $3K for a steering cylinder for his CaseIH, they're all expensive.

BTW: Why wouldn't someone get an alternator rebuilt. Wife had the alternator for the 686 rebuilt at a local shop for under $75, it works like a brand new one.

If you wanted to look at a picture of the 34" rubber in the brochures its on the front page, page 3,4,8,10,11 with the scraper, 13-3, 14, 16 and page 19 with the loader and the bales in the bucket.
