Choosing between 550xp, 346xp and 562xp for a firewood saw

I dont doubt that one bit. I would love to lay my hands on a 562, cause on paper they look like a beast.

But for me, cost is the big thing. When for the same money I could own a 7900. Sure its heavier, but it is also bigger and faster. So for me, its nothing against the 562, its a dollars and cents thing. I wish dolmar would come out with a ~60cc class saw on a lighter platform like the 5105. Something that can compete with the 562 and 361 that isnt built on the heavier 79cc platform.

And FWIW, the 60cc 116si is one of the most impressive 60cc saws IMO. (not counting the 68cc 120si cause its closer to 70). The 116 will still outcut "most" modern saws, and its 25 year old technology. Just saying...

And for the record, I do like husky saws. I just like dolmar a bit better. But hey, at least we agree on tractor brands;)
New Dolmar 60cc strato saw, PS 6100. They have done it, but I don't think it's here yet.

Same here, I like Dolmar, but Husky has been too good to me. Big Plus on the tractor brand!

Just to put in my 2 cents. I am always a fan of Husky. The price and power is the big factor. I did pick up the Dolmar PS-6400 last week. 64cc saw. It came with the 20" bar. It seems to be a good running saw. I only have a tank and half of cutting time with it so far. The dealer said to give it about 8 tanks for the rings to seat in. For me my preference is my top handle husky with a 16" bar. I use it on the ground and in the tree's since it is light and strong. I tend to be scrambling through big piles of limbs though and don't want to be packing a heavy saw all day. After that a 026Pro with the 18" bar is the most often used on the ground and in the tree's.

I know you only got a tank and a half through it, but in your opinion, how do you think it compairs to other 60cc saws you have ran?

Personally, I could not wait 8 tanks. The saw was bought to replace a stolen 7900. So after maybe a tank or two, it became an 8400. MUCH better:D

Okay well it has a rather large shell I thought. I am sort of comparing it to my buddies 036 Pro. My buddy is Stihl all of the way so I let him use it. He was really impressed with how it cut. It is a pound heavier than the 036 with a few more Cc's than the 036 and just a tad more claimed power. I think the dogs (teeth on the front end of the saw) are a bit too large and agressive they could have put smaller dogs on it to give a bit more cutting bar length. And I am anxious to get it broke in well myself to see if does perform better. I am happy with it for the time I do have on it. Compared to other 60 cc saws I think it is fine. What I really liked was the price. $565 to my door. That was hard to beat. Now if it last as long as the Husky or Stihls that I have then I would give it a big thumbs up.

You know, hard to believe some dealers stay in business.

I made up my mind to go for the 562.

So I called one of the dealers I went to the other day in the next town over to get their best price. $800 and he'll throw in one of them hard case saw boxes.!!! Great deal for here. And Ive never bought from these guys before.

Then I went to my local dealer and asked them for theirs.

No word of a lie, the salesman walked over to the saw (this was after ignoring me for like 5 minutes), turns the tag around and says "thats it". In a cocky tone of voice no less.

The tag is marked $849 but $819.99 was marked in pen as the "sale price"

I say, Ill take it now if you can do it for $800 to match the neighboring dealer.

"We dont match prices"

"Not even on an $800 sale"? ... "Nope".. I protested a bit and he said "yeah... unhuh... yeah" dismissively.

I said. "well YOU (I even pointed at him in my fury) just lost a $800 sale over $20.." "yeah.. unhuh... yeah" was the response.

Un-friggin believable.

And Im a repeat customer, bought my 51 there, my 252RX spacing saw.. lots of parts.. And I was going to buy a 223L trimmer next spring.

Gah. still pi$$ed off. So glad I bought a Kubota over their brand.. **** glad of that!!!!

Got a bit of a drive to the other dealer, but I hope to have it by the end of the day...

Hard to believe these jackoffs stay in business...

If anyone wants to know a good dealer just PM me.. same if you want to know which one to avoid.

We have a couple dealers like that here. No discount what so ever. But I drive an hour to a very good dealer and get a discount, not big but it pays the gas and he stocks a bunch of parts, chain and general stuff. Nice folks too...

Very good choice on the saw!

You know, it wasnt even the $20. **** im going to spend 3x that in gas!! It was the attitude and arrogance that soured me. Swear, im NEVER buying anything, parts .. nothing from these guys again.

Not even like this guy was new, hes been there forever and has dealt with me before. I still say its unbelievable..

I was so ticked I almost went across town and bought a Stihl

(I will say this, the stihl dealer is great, i do buy other parts from them, good bunch of guys, just hate the saw)

Something similar happened to me where a sales rep thought he owned the company and seemed to get off on a power play like you experienced. I contacted the owner and apprised him of the situation. At the time it was for a Husky 257 that was $517. I was offering $500 tax included as I saw the saw elsewhere for $489. He not only reemed the sales rep a new one and had a meeting with all of his staff as to not how to treat the buying public, he couldn't do enough for me and sold me my next saw at his cost. (He actually wanted to give me a saw but I wouldn't have it as why take a pound of flesh from him for the sake of his sales rep) This was a company that I had purchased 8 saws from previously along with all parts and supplies and had dealt with this particular sales rep for 12 years. For the next 3 years that the guy worked there, he treated me like I was King Farouk. Some just need a nudge off the high horse so you can keep moseying into the store you want to mosey in.

Arrow.. I hear ya. Id love to tell the owner... but the owner is just as bad!!!

Honestly I dont know why I even gave them the chance. Back when I was looking at a tractor, I went there first. I got the same basic attitude, this time from the owner. I went to the kubota dealership and had the exact opposite experience.. Hence, why I now have a nice little orange tractor, not the brand he sells.

I guess part of me being a sucker for these guys is that they used to have a GREAT salesman before he passed at too young an age. Very personable and sure wouldnt let $20 stand in the way of a deal, especially considering past purchases! Neither the owner nor the guy I dealt with have any personality as evidenced in my dealings with them.

I think the reason I got so ticked (and admittedly lost my cool in retrospect) is that Ive worked customer service and sales and have the sense to realize that when a repeat customer comes in two times within a week inquiring about a very expensive saw, chances are they are real close to buying. Throw into the mix that your only $20 away from their lowest quote and it should be a no-braner to make the sale. If you cant match price, you just have to diffuse the situation.. make a joke " yea, Id love to match it, but that $20 got to go to Nova Scotia Power".. Offer a hat.. Bar oil.. just sweeten the deal a bit and its yours. You NEVER say "NO!, We don't do "x". There are very low cost ways to close the deal.

Ok, well enough about Jacass dealers...

I went to the "good" dealership and the experience couldnt have been better. Much friendlier staff. Talked about the saw, Autotune in particular, Zero turn mowers..new lines they were thinking of taking on.. general stuff

Probably chatted 20 minutes while the saw was checked over and test ran by the mechanics.

They were more than cheerful when taking my money!! Thats what its all about right:)

And they even threw in a free hat.. without me even asking .."because I had to drive all that way"

Overall.. great experience and when all is considered it probably didnt cost any more than what I would have paid at the local place as I burned less fuel than I figured. Oh and on top of that, there was a lineup at the good dealer! Yes, people waiting in line to hand over their hard earned :D There wasnt a soul in the bad dealer, other than myself and the sales/ parts guy. That speaks volumes.

I had a chance to try the saw on the pile, just a couple cuts because its raining, dark and my chaps are in the shed. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! There is absolutely no comparison to my old 51. Truly nite and day. Better in power, weight and bar length; better in every way really. I cant wait to get a few tanks through it. Never fails, I finally have some time and the weather is looking bad for the next several days.. heavy rains. Will post up once I have some time on it.
