Can someone tell me correct operation of brakes to assist in turning, Thanks

Good luck. It required a contortionist on my old B8200. Other Kubotas I have used were same. Using the brakes to turn is easy as pie on my current NH TC40D/HST.

Dont know why. I liked my old B8200, and the other Kubota's I have used. But for some reason Kubota does not seem to think steering brakes are a useful feature.

You have to unlock the two brake pedals so you can engage the right and left separately. If you depress the left brake you will turn left and vice versa. I use mine like that when using the FEL and can't turn with the steering wheel because the front wheels are nearly off the ground or are off the ground.

I don't really use the steering brakes, but have experimented just to see if I could. My manual says to use the cruise control then brake with your right foot. My son just reaches over with his left foot. It is not as easy as a tractor with brakes on the left, but it can be done.

Here are a couple of old threads:

Individual braking is also great when using a rear blade angled and moving lots of dirt. Helps counter the rudder effect.

But of short turning is the priority, left-right braking dont work so well in 4wd

I think I have been flamed more on this than anything else. I find different tractors react differently to left/right braking and as mentioned 2WD/4WD makes a difference. When I get a new tractor, out of curiosity, I take them out into an area where tearing up a little ground doesn't hurt and try them out with various scenarios.

We have tractors that work great and those that don't. Both my brothers and I grew up farming using steering brakes, but rarely use them now.

I have a geared transmission and find them quite useful. I use them alot in the woods and in the winter.
If I am on soft or greasy ground or rough terrain or the front end is "light" and the tractor doesn't want to turn I use the steering brakes. If I have to turn but can't afford much if any forward movement or need to pivot on one rear tire to make a very tight turn I use the steering brakes. As said previously to use them just remove the lever that locks the two pedals together. The way I think of it is I push on the brake that is on the inside of the turn I am making. Either going forward or reverse.
One thing you dont want to do is use the steering brakes at the same time you have the differential lock pressed. I wouldn't use them on pavement either. Other than that there is not much you can do wrong.
Try them see for yourself.

Unlock your brake pedals and go play around. Start in 2wd on flat ground, something a little soft but not on your lawn (it'll dig it up some). Step on the left brake, turn left, and then try to move. Works in both forward and reverse.
