Touching my grease gun makes my cell phone ring!

Here are a couple more hints that may not have been mentioned. I always clamp the rod in a vise after it's pulled all the way out. No way that sucker comes loose and launches the grease. Second, instead of using the air bleed screw or the push button to bleed air, unscrew the outgoing hose completely. Then air can only burp if the handle is lifted all the way out to pull the piston back. This way there is full control of the grease under spring pressure.

I store my grease guns in a brown paper grocery bag. Really works well to contain any grease.

The time that I love my grease gun most is when I have the rod pulled all the way out and bump it with my finger on the end. oh yeah, that smarts :))))

Good idea with the plastic bags, Ill try it next time; Speaking of grease, does it REALLY make a big difference in grease quality? I buy up cases of grease from TSC when they are on sale; usually $1.00 to $1.50 a tube; but there are hi-temps/ and reds at $4.00! I grease often, usually 1/2 of what the mfg. suggests. What are your thoughts?

You are likely to get all kinds of responses to this one. Yes, type of lube makes a huge difference, but many stand by their favorite. I use the stuff my mini-excavator manufacturer recommends even though it costs a lot more than what you pay but it is some miserable, sticky, gunk that you can't wash out when you smear some on yourself and has proven to me to keep the pins and bushings on my machine lubed even when the bucket is spending most of its time under water. Low cost lube makes me cringe but it's much better than no lube.

there are some application specific lubes that your machine may call for.

marine lubes that don't wash.

hi temp lubes for heat applications.

ep lubes.. etc.

short and long fibre.. etc.

chassis and bearing lubes.

molly lubes.. synthetic lubes.. not to mention the nlgo categories.. #2 being most common.. but you are seeing lots of 1.5 onthe shelf too.

For loaded applcations needed ep lubes.. I use dthem.. for generaly greasing of chassis points.. I use the regular brown / amber grease that's about 1$ a tube. the ep lubes are usually 1.50 or 2$ a tube.

I keep 2 guns.. one loaded with each. things like my batwing will eat an entire tube per greasing.. it gets the blain brown grease... etc

I admit I haven't read all the posts in this thread, so don't know if this has already been mentioned. Anyhoo, after installing a new cartridge in your grease gun, hold it by the metal tube with the pump end down and smack it up with a rubber mallet about 10 times (being sure not to hit the linkage). This will move the air bubble up to the plunger and flood the pump area with grease. Saves a lot of burping, farting and wasted grease.
