I'm going to build a good sized pole barn, thinking of buying either a used bucket truck or man lift to be able to do all the work myself. When I'm done I'll probably sell it, might keep it around for maintenance and tree trimming. I was surprised how cheap you can buy these things once they've got some age on them (cheap as in $5-10K). Some have small jib cranes on the bucket that can lift a few thousand pounds. First question is whether there's a forum on TBN that might discuss these things, couldn't find anything on the construction forum. Second if anyone has done something like this I'm interested in what you bought and whether you were able to sell it when you were done.

I have a portable man lift, Bil-Jax XLB 4319, that I bought for painting and tree trimming. It does a great job for those, saves me having to rent one or pay someone to paint the house. My only complaint is I wish it would reach out a little further. I still have it so I can't say if I could sell it easily. It's not built to lift anything other than people so it wouldn't be useful for moving materials, but being able to tow it easily was more important to me than that ability. I hope you find one that meets your needs.

Bil-Jax must be a popular brand, I see lots of them now that I'm looking. I have a lot of Bil-Jax scaffolding, didn't even know they made lifts.

probably not a lot of help, but I wouldn't plan on selling it when done. I have done similar things in the past with similar intentions, seems even after the planned project is done, I can't bring myself to sell it. Maybe I am a hoarder? I have even bough things with the intent of reselling right away because of a cheap price, and still end up keeping it because "maybe someday..."! I think (if you are anything like me anyway) I would forget about the reselling part, especially if you have trees around your house.

Funny you should say that, I have a roofing nailer and a shingle shear that I bought used for one job and was going to sell them as soon as that was done. They're still in my garage and I have about as much use for a shingle shear as I do a pogo stick.
