Makes me proud to be an American.
I watched this as it was happening. It makes one proud to know that our society will respond enmasse to help those in desparate need.
It looked to me like every available water craft of all sort responded. Yes, WOW!
That is but one of many outstanding things that was either done on the day of 9/11 or done in remembrance of the victims of 9/11. Another one the American people do not seem to know about is the Monument the Russians gave to the US in remembrance of 9/11. snopes.com: Tear Drop 9/11 Monument
A lot of Americans either don't remember or know about a lot that done by Americans or was given or done in remembrance of 9/11 by foreign countries or governments. The case of the Russian monument is sad; a former President had to accept for the American people.

I knew about the boat lift the day of the attack, but the news didn't give much information about the scope, so I had no idea of that. That was truly impressive and inspiring.
I never heard of the tear drop monument before...it is beautiful, and I am disappointed I didn't hear about it.
There is a tiny monument to Sandy Bradshaw at my High School. She was on the flight that fought back. She was a couple of years behind me.
If you search this page for Bradshaw, you will see that she boiled the water for the attack. I hope she got to hurl it at them, but it is hard to know that.

This monument to Sandy Waugh Bradshaw is located at the entrance to the football stadium of Eastern Randolph High School, the home of the Carolina Heat. She was a very special lady, as those who knew her will attest, and those who didn't can see by G
