A reminder to be careful & respect what a chain can do!

Very wise words from your Dad that I will share with my sons.
It's hard not to get complacent sometimes. "Mind on task" & "stay out of the line of fire" are 2 things drilled into us at work all the time. Be skilled but stay respectful of what can happen. I carry a few scars of "lessons learned". Gate latch punctured the webbing between my thumb and finger when it came unjammed. Simply wearing gloves would have prevented that wound from happening. Thanks to all for sharing.

Sounds like my employer, we do a daily, job safety analysis before starting work. It helps to make you think.

Thanks for shareing your son's experience. If it keeps just one person from getting injured or worse well worth it.
This next comment not directed at anyone but IMO besides an operator being overconfidence another factor is fatique. Know when to stop,rest,look over your equipment and procede when ready. Also haveing your cell phone with you to call EMS if need be.

Jeezus, there it is all over again huh? My wife simply says, "Chainsaws are an accident waiting to happen".
I must offer the usual trite sympathy, I hope you get better soon. ( trite sympathy because we all know you're in a world of pain and you won't be up and around for awhile.) Sucks. I hope they gave you proper pain killers. Knees have an inordinate number of nerves. One of those, "Don't ask me how I know"

It was last spring, healed up fine, the doc said sewing my knee up was like sewing leather, he actually was pushing and twisting the needle to penetrate the skin,thats why I think I didn't feel anything, they are all scar tissue from playing 10 years of football, (always thought Alabama hard the hardest soil) 40 years of motorcyles, and a brief stint in the Corps.

Let your son know that there are much more experienced operators that have had worst accidents so not to beat himself up. Glad to know it sounds like he will recover. Just last year I let a chain touch my thigh it didn't make it through the Carharts but I still wear those pants as a reminder of my almost cosy mistake.
