PTO Generator Wet Stack?

It's not about a problem on the GENERATOR side, it's about whether it can damage the tractor engine.

Hooking up a 15kw pto genset, and running the tractor for 10 straight days during a power outage, only drawing a few kw.

That is my concern.

i look at emergency power generation as just that.

don't run t he genny 24/7 for 15 days just so you can walk in and turn on a light in the hallway 2x per day.

run the thing when you need water.. or news.. or something.. you know.. EMERGENCY... not convienience.

I think a lot of people are over thinking this. A tractor is meant for a variety of tasks including being a stationary power source (via the PTO). Furthermore, I doubt that even 5% of the members on this board will ever put enough hours on a tractor in their lifetime to worry about all the 'problems' bantered about on the internet. In short, just use the darn thing and don't worry about it.

I agree the tractor is designed to be a stationary power source via the PTO, however POWER needs to be drawn. If you tractor is running along at 2550rpm with no load, it isn't making POWER as designed.

I agree this most likely won't affect most owners. However, around my area it seems most people fire up their portable generators when the power goes out and not shut them off until it is back. That is closing in on 14 days for some people in my area (thanks Sandy).

The same can be said about true "backup" generators. 15kW from a tractor is no joke. That is plenty to run an entire house like the power company is supplying it. With that much power on tap, burning the diesel any ways, I might as well live like the "power is on".

There is also the whole argument that most people on the forum don't use their tractors. These motors are good for what? 4000 hours? That is probably 40 years for most homeowners.
