I had a really nice compressor 30 gal tank etc...the tank began to leak..just a stress crack at the bottom toward the backside of the tank....I junked the compressor....not worth the risk to weld it...I hated it too...just the right thing to do....Why take a chance...?

I worked at a ASME certified pressure vessel contractor for a number of years. Even we wouldn't bother repairing our own thin gauge compressor veseels. Too much problem and questions about how far the crystallization progressed from the failure.

You are certainly within your rights to repair it, as long as it's strictly a homeowner use tool. If it has any commercial use, it must be a ASME certified repair, which gets expensive when two boilermakes and Hartford Steam Boiler show up at your door

Advice taken. Looks like im in the market for a new air compressor. The little compressor couldn't keep up and I just made a mess with the air arc. Maybe I could use this 80 gALLON tank for diesel fuel.

Ok I have some more compressor questions.....I have an old automotive propane tank. I think its about 150 gallons. I usually use it to heat water but I am getting ideas of turning it into an air compressor tank. Steam her out, refit it, use the motor and compressor off the bad tank? Any comments? Ive seen the Amish do it on a larger scale.

First find the pressure rating of the propane vessel.

Then do a pressure test.

Then do your cleaning etc.
