100 timkin OK load, What grease would that be?

The chevron ultra duty I use has got a 70 lb timkin OK load.

We use dupont Krytox at work for some applications. These are for fairly large bearings (most 4"-8" ID) and are precision roller bearings. They are also in a high heat-high humidity environment around a lot of steam. The tubes are around $140 each and a small bucket (about 2-1/2 gallons) runs close to $4,000. It takes 2-3 of the buckets to do the entire corrugator, 3-4 tubes to do one bearing if you almost completely purge the old stuff out.

This is very expensive grease, but very special-application and IMHO not very good for most general lubrication. The only reason I say this is that price does not dictate "good" grease. The best grease is one designed for that given application. I am still learning, and there is definitely a lot of science behind lubrication. You can't just say a more expensive grease is a better grease. It's funny because someone mentioned mobil xhp-222 which is a grease that we use a lot, and for general lubrication of roller bearings- I think it is pretty good. I didn't know it was so cheap. We also use some lithium based grease for some applications- mostly linear bearings, I can't remember the number for it though, but you can definitely tell it's different.

That would be me.....Mobil XHP-222 is great for everything I do, but the "Mobil XHP-222 Special" is junk......they add some black stuff in it (molybdenum disulphide) which I don't like.... http://mascopetroleum.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Mobilgrease-XHP-222.pdf

An olde timer once told me that the best grease will be extra stringy when ya put some between your fingers and slowly open them.......some of that red stuff is really stringy..

I use Mystick JT-6 Hitemp in trailer bearings universal joints, any where else there might be some heat, we use it exclusive on the combine bearings. Use mystic mult purpose JT-6 on every thing else. both are #2 of course. It is gettn to be close to 5 bucks a tube. But down time due to lack of greasing or poor quality grease cost a lot more in the long run. Here at work we use Cheveron multifak EP2. LUTT

Thumbs up to Mystik grease. Mystik / Citgo are the same company and they make some excellent greases - also one of the very, very few companies that truly make their own grease. (There are about 5 companies in the US that make greases in the US.)

Yep, we have used it since I was a kid and I am still a 40 year old kid. Maybe is why its as high as it is,but it is good grease. All the bearing failures I remember wasnt due to the mystick, most of time lack of!LOL LUTT

I'm a big fan of the EP greases, but no grease will keep dirt out of a joint. So I'm in the "grease often" camp. Sealed joints help, but they are usually only found on bucket pins, and they get beat up quick.

My father has always made greasing part of the morning per-trip while warming up the equipment. With practice and clean zeros, it only takes a few minutes to grease a machine.
