My company just acquired 1000 acres of land and we need to get a mulcher to clear it. A colleague mentioned the Gyro 18XP and Tiger cat M726E. Please give your candid advice as to this and kindly makes recommendations. Thank you very much

I would recommend getting some quotes on local Mulching contractors before buy a machine. If u add up wat a machine costs, maintaining and operator expenses getting someone else to deal with it may be about the same expense and alot less headache.

my main question would be is this for pipe line work? is there a dead line? and how many hours do you think this will take to clear? 1000 acres is a good sized job, iv done bigger, but we just sheared and raked it. for what your going to pay for a good sized equipment to mulch with, you would be better off buying two D9Hs and 2 D6Cs or Ds.

Is there something under the vegetation which justifies the cost of clearing ? It seems to me that clearing land costs more than buying land, provided it is just ordinary land with no special attributes. For many agricultural purposes the return on investment calculation has to be very interesting indeed to justify that sort of expense. We are not living on prime agricultural land here in MI, and land values are relatively low, so I guess every situation is different.

problem is you didnt mention exactly what you are clearing nor what's terrain is like. is it real forest or just a bunch of little trees? swampy or hillsides? etc.

Not to get too off topic but where I'm at in Texas, clearing land responsibly without adding to erosion can nearly double your asking price per acre on ranch land. I guess everywhere is different but I've seen a lot of $1000/ac properties that are choked with cedar and brush turn into $2k, 3k, and $4k per acre properties with an investment in clearing. I'm seeing more land moving from ranch/ag use to recreational. I'm also talking to more and more land owners who are purchasing their own equipment to clear and maintain their recreation land.

Here, I guess there is an oversupply of clear cut former farm land. By contrast, it is relatively difficult to buy parcels that are wooded unless they are small. Getting 100 or even 200 acres of woods is not going to happen in my part of the state. Drive 3 hours north and it is probably different once one gets beyond the populated parts of the state. But logistics can be a challenge when you are that far from anything. In Texas, perhaps 3 hours is nothing to drive....
