An orange one
I have a small Kubota tractor, L4400. It is only 45 hp. I use a 6 foot brush hog right now to clear small brush. Is there any attachment I can put on my tractor with extra hydraulics that will grind up some larger brush like sumac and dogwood? Right now, I can't afford a bobcat. Just curious. Thanks

Might try a older 5' brush hog and beef up the gears and blade. Then just take smaller bites takes longer but cheaper than buying big equipment

Try welding small 2 inch sections of channel iron countercombs inside the shroud for better shredding... then cut 3 inches off the end of your blades and hardface the ends... then you have taken some of the stress off the blade pins and can tackle bigger materials. Always a good idea to cut bigger stuff into firewood lengths and prep the stuff with a chainsaw... chainsaw has a lot of power in a narrow package and will make the stuff you want to shred small enough for your tractor to handle...

That sounds like a great idea, thank you. Any chance you could post a picture of what it looks like inside the shroud?

And what a great first post, welcome aboard.

Countercomb.jpgJust joined... and at 70 yrs old haven't quite figured out how to navigate this thing... The picture is of the countercombs on the Bull Hog... the hammers pull the brushy material up and into the "anvils" to shred it; you cannot beat the material on the ground to break it... too soft. Neither can you do much damage to materials flying around inside the mower shroud. So, for the rotary mowers, take the pieces of channel iron, align the edges to the direction of material flow, make those ugly with hardface and weld them into the shroud in a staggered pattern to stop the brush from flying around... works good.
