Get into beekeeping and set them up near your property lines. Most people think they will be swarmed like in the movies and tend to stay clear of them.

There's a new C&W song called "Way out here" that goes something like:

Out here we are protected be the good Lord and a gun
and you might meet them both if you show up here unwelcome son.
Way out here.....Way out here.

All I can say is this. If you think you have it bad, wait till the Amish move in.

This is just a rant. I'll be putting up small billboards for the long weekends next summer as well as video taping trespassers.

This may not work in Canada, but put up prominent signs that list civil fees for fishing ($1000), trespass ($1000), etc etc etc.

A cheap 100 dollar game cam will get you the proof if you want to take them to small claims and cash in.

The next guy you catch fishing, just walk over to his tackle box and open it up. Tell him you're looking for anything you can use in there because you like "just fishing" too. Tell him since he is using your land it is only fair that you can use his tackle.;)

This is the best idea Ive heard for ages!

As a youngster I lived on a farm in Zimbabwe, we built a beautiful small hotel overlooking a plain which was very popular. For security the property had a 15 strand electric fence. One weekend a bunch of kids cut the fence, and drove their dirt bikes around the plain chasing the game. I asked them nicely to leave, and got a few four letter words in reply, so I went and got my brand new .303, I found them lighting a fire by the dam, so I put a shot through the engine of the nicest bike, they swore more so I did the same to the next one. Eventually they decided I was nuts and ran.
When the parents came to fetch the bikes they found them on the scrap heap!
Zimbabwe used to have very interesting trespassing laws - If your land has game , "poachers" can be shot on sight! It was years before anyone tried that one again, and Ive also mellowed out alot, all I want is for people to ask nicely.

... & not cut the fence, & not chase the game, & not curse at you, etc etc etc. :(

I came across this old thread that I started and wanted to share a karma themed update on the people who inspired the original rant.
The "chronic" trespass violators were a group of about a dozen who showed up most long weekends. I'd have to address them in my yard repeatedly over the course of the weekend.
My last encounter with these people was the one I described as the guy who told me; "I just want to look around." The extended talk that I had with him was actually a nose to nose with me doing all the talking. I really hate to be like that, but at that point in the weekend hearing what he "wanted" pushed my button pretty hard so I set my tools down and I came down off my ladder to better explain what I wanted.
That talk actually ended my problem with the chronics. None of them have set foot in my yard since.
I had instructed papa chronic to take my message back to his entire group. Seems that he did that and more. The next week another neighbour (Ms Ambivalent) came over to vouch for those "really nice harmless people" (the chronics). Nice, I guess I'm the bad guy for getting to the point where I was less than pleasant with one of them.
Fast forward to the Saturday night on first long weekend of 2011. The "chronic" men were partying while the women and kids tried to sleep in the cars. Well, Ms Ambivalent asked them several times to turn the music down and they made a game out of smiling nodding, waiting for her to go back to bed and then turning the music up louder and laughing. Ms Ambivalent called the police, because they were "disrespectful" people.
So, after years of being a nuisance, the chronics finally gave me something to smile about. I haven't seen them since.

Megafantastic story! You should write a book.

That's a good "not in my back yard" (NIMBY) story. The Chronics went from harmless, to disrespectful, to a nuisance the closer they got to Ms Ambivalent. What do you want to bet that she still considers you to be Mr Intolerant? I'm glad the Chronics are gettin' their 'come-up-ances.'
