hard to argue with my 2001 ford E350 with the big V8 for $4000. They also make a diesel version and a V10 version although the diesel version is much more pricey
Wasn't the 5.4 (330 cubic inch) the only gasoline V8 engine offered? I've got one of those gutless gas hogs in an F250.

I have a 93 F250 with the 7.3 non turbo diesel. It has 240,000 miles and the motor still runs strong, has the 5 speed standard trans, 4.11 gears. This truck is not loaded with power but has good torque and is reliable. It appears the Ford will rust away before the IH engine wears out.

Good Torque, and Reliable. Music to my ears.

Don't need Fast, Don't need Pretty. Wants are a different story.

Yeah, rust is usually what kills a decent vehicle around here, long before a maintained engine gives up.

is it a 93.5 with the ats turbo? we have a 250 at work like that.. big difference in that and the NA 7.3

I like my 7.3 PS just as well though.

you can get older 7.3psd from 95+ and have a lil newer machine.. and still not as much $$

on the other hand.. the older ones will be cheap. I looked at a 90 7.3 f350 back when I was looking, and they were in the 3000-4000$ range..

at that age.. interior is usually suffering.. and perhaps front end.

might drip a bit too..

I just heard back, these trucks are still for sale. I've asked a few more questions, the turbo being one of them. (Original listings only had the model, diesel, and year listed).

Good points Soundguy. I do like the PS, as I have one in my '01. I'm realistic about what these old non-PS trucks are/not. Anything 20+ years old I expect to be doing some work on, just not wanting to get into engine/trani swaps right off the hop though.....

Got to gather a bit more info, and cogitate a bit. These trucks are a really long way from me, but I have a buddy within driving distance that I would trust to check them out for me.

I think the old 7.3 IDI was a good motor plus it is cheaper and easier to work on than a Powerstoke because it is mechanical injection.

i'm at 285,000 miles on my '94 F350. it has the idi non turbo engine and 5 speed. great truck, not the fastest but it will tow what you need. I am a Chevy guy and can't come up with anything negative to say about his model. In fact will probably pick up another one when the right deal comes up.

Got that right, I paid $30 a piece for injectors when I got the truck about 7 years ago. The originals were good though. My !993 gets 14-15 MPG. I turned up the injector pump just a bit and modded the air cleaner housing to aid in air flow. It does OK but doesnt compare to a power stroke 7.3 and I think they are really good engines. Even with 240,000 it starts great on zero degree days without the block heater(though it is better with the block heater).

Thanks all, for the further inputs. Fuel system replacement parts seem pretty economically priced.

Capt_Met : on long highway runs, what are you getting for mileage with that 5 speed ?

1) Empty.

2) Towing say 5,000 lbs or so.

(I grew up driving Chevys, and like a lot of the older ones. Your comment is high praise, from a Bowtie guy !).

I like that era of Ford trucks. I'd think about one of those trucks, and a Cummins 12V conversion...

Buddy of mine dropped a Cummins 12V into a Chevy CrewCab of that era. Used it as his race-tow vehicle, running long distances.

When he finished racing, I think that truck sold the day after he put it up for sale.
