Why don't you just install an interlock kit and a terminal box/block to connect your generator. This way you have to turn off the main breaker when you use the generator. It would be a whole bunch safer.

Yes those are ingenius and cost effective. However I dont have a dedicated main line like shown in those illustrations.

You have 2 options:
1. Replace the panel with a new one that has a main breaker and install an interlock - cost $200ish in parts - Panel: PowerMark Gold 150 Amp 32-Space 32-Circuit Main Breaker Load Center Contractor Kit-TM3215RCU1K at The Home Depot, Interlock: PowerMark Gold Load Center/Generator Interlock Kit-THQLLX1 at The Home Depot
2. Install a transfer switch between the meter and the box, being as you have a 100 amp service, this is probably the cheaper option - $120ish for one of these: 100 Amp 240-Volt Non-Fused Emergency Power Transfer Switch-TC10323R at The Home Depot

Not the most inexpensive product to buy, but it fits onto your power meter and offers a whole home transfer switch. GenerLink.com - About GenerLink - The easy way to connect a home generator

No re-wiring or sub panel needed. When the power goes out, hook up your gennie to the connection and use whatever circuits you like in your home providing you stay below the gennie's capacity. I think the line/switch limit is somewhere around 8K continuous watts.

We installed one about 18 months ago. Of course we've only been out of power once for about 4 hours since then!!

In case your comment is a partial question, the answer is Yes, this is the easiest and safest way to connect a generator including a PTO generator. You won't be disappointed only wonder why you didn't do it sooner. Good luck.

How do you shut off all power during an emergency..??

I would have to go out side and turn off each indiviual breaker to the house appliance like well or ac for instance. Im not crazy about the setup Im just trying to figure out how to make it safer.
