Milky Transmission Months Before Next Use

I agree you are doing the right thing. For the past few years I would do the pond bank, etc so the wife would not worry about him doing it.

When the weather gets nice you can service it. If the antifreeze has been in it for years I would be more concerned about what it is doing to the water pump, radiator, etc than the water in the gear box before spring.

Again it is not ideal but milk in hydraulics is as common as dust in a hot dry July.

Unfortunately.. it isn't likely JUSt the hyds we are worried about....

water pump is easy to bolt on.

rear end is hard to R&R.

i'd be concerned about water in rear sumps....

Water any where it does not belong is a BAD thing when it comes to machines without question. The fact most tractors that see little use and are parked outside have some water in the hydraulics/gear boxes. In that sense it is NORMAL so I would not sweat it until spring is all I am saying. :)

Now if the tractor is going to be used in 20F temps it needs to be address now. Someone posted about popping a bolt holding on a filter canister when the hydraulic fluid froze and the hydraulic pressure when wild because it could not relieve itself.

water + metal = rust.

there no GOOD time for it to set.

Yes it collects. and if bnot used often it does not get flashed off.

don't make it good though.

if it was mine.. I'd change it... that's were I'm leaving it. The op can decide how much he wants the metal innards to corode before changing it, and you can decide how to maintain (lack of apparently? ) your machines too ;)

nuff said.

He said he was going to change out the fluids so that is good. At least it is a small machine and will not require so much fluid. Our old JD 310B backhoe requires 20 gallons for a total drain and refill. It takes twice it seems and I have been using the high end stuff from TSC that is about $10 a gallon. With an old hoe between an O-ring failure that I did not catch until I had lost about 10 gallons and a few blown hoses it tends to change itself but these leaks should be only once. :)

i hear ya on the hi capacity stuff.

My NH 7610s has 13g of utf flaoting around in her.. :) and the 5000 is a bit less than that. then the 4600.. and the list goes on... :)
