How does GST work

, I don't understand difference between L and M with comparable engine size. Kubota web site sure isn't very good comparing tractors from different families. It seems like M series are cheaper than L series for comparable sized engine, but it's hard to compare used equipment. I also want a cab, tired of freezing my tail feathers in winter.
For what your doing a used m5040 with hydraulic shuttle might be more welcome. More weight close to 1000 lbs more loader capacity larger wheels and tires. More ground clearance. Hydraulic shuttle no clutching going to reverse. But need to clutch when shifting. When you look at new grand l series with similar hp to the m 40 series you find that less tractor "L" cost several thousand more than M series. Higher base price no rear remotes standard $ quick detach bucket not standard more$. Not sure how new M60 compares.

At first I thought you were saying the Canadians charged a special tax on transmissions. Tell the government to get their own acronyms, these are reserved for tractors.

:dance1: thought I would get someone lol.

I'm coming to the same conclusion, that the M is more value for what I need to do. I've also seen several used with HST instead of GST, if I decide I prefer HST.

I've noticed that some operators of GST Transmissions use the L39 hand throttle as a cruise control when shifting. When I bought my L39 my dealer stated that was how he did it. Being a nonbeliever of most of what I'm told I then read the Owner's Manual which states that you should momentarily let off of the gas pedal when shifting speeds or reversing direction with the column shifter. I've been operating heavy equipment for over 60 years and that made sense to me and is how I do it.

The guys who have the MX5100 HSTs seem to like them. The standard mx gear trans does not have a power shuttle I'm also not sure that drive to reverse is synchronized.

I would generally do that also, unless I was operating something on the PTO that wouldn't appreciate idling down and then starting back up like my rotary cutter.

the smaller M series like the 4700 and 5100 will give you a lot more tractor for the money than the grand L series.if cost is an issue i would consider a plain gear transmision of the su models.I have a M4800su(2007 model I think the mx4700 replaced it)and it is a plain gear trans 4 speed with high low and reverse and the range shifter is on the left side of the seat.you have to use the clutch but you can shift from low to reverse very quick and easy.It is almost as handy as the hydro shuttle for a lot less money. If the new mx4700 or mx5100 are still avaibale in a special utitlty model like mine thats the way i would go.If i remember correctly 5 years ago when i bought mine i saved around 4000$ going with the su over the deluxe.I use mine for moving round bales ,loading and spreading manure, brush hogging, mowing raking and baling hay and hauling fire wood.I have no complaints about my 4800su

Not to start a brand war but depending on the dealers in your area i would also consider a deere 5055e or a new holland workmaster 55 if you have a good dealer in you area.I have a good kubota dealer within 12 miles so i like kubota but they are not the only brand.

How does GST work?
It works great.
The hand throttle is good for long, contiuous operations like tilling or mowing, but when I need to change speed or shift gears I like to switch over to the foot throttle. Shifting with the hand throttle set works, but the shifts seem to take longer that way.
