John Deere 2720
While we didn't have as much snow as I had hoped, I was able to get some seat time with my new 2720, 54" blower and 60" Land Pride rear blade.

We had about 3" of very wet and heavy snow so the majority of the work was done with the rear blade. I was out well before dawn and the front and rear work lights were more than adaquate. The rear blade worked fine. Since our ground is still not frozen, most of the time I was pushing backwards with the blade pointed front so as to not dig up any more gravel than necessary. I was anxious to see how the blower would work so I plowed in two directions and ended up with a long furrow of snow, about 75 feet long, 50 inches wide and 18+ inches deep. It made for a full 54" blower load and was wet post-plowed snow. I went slow and the blower threw it about 25 feet. It looked more like wet concrete coming out of the chute. I used the remote spout control a few times and it worked as expected.

I put about 2.5 hrs on the tractor clearing my drive way and 4 of the neighbors. This was the first rear shake down for the gear and the fuel gauge barely moved.

Everything went well except for THREE things that drove me CRAZY.

1. I gotta gotta get some kind of step for the 2720. Getting on and off to change the angle on the rear blade is a killer on my bad knees.

2. PTO switch. Does anyone else have a super stiff PTO switch? The pull-up PTO switch on the dash is sooooo hard to engage that given the amount of force I have to exert I was expecting the whole assembly to rip right out of the dash. I'm not kidding. Do you think it is just stiff from being new? I seriously doubt that switch is going to survive the winter. If it is just stiff from being new perhaps I need to go in the garage and put a couple years of use on it.

3. Seat switch! I only have 10 hrs on the tractor and I am already at my wits end with the seat switch. Lean forward to engage 4x4 - the engine shuts off! Lean forward to push/pull remote spout control - the engine shuts off! Lean to the left or right to get a better view - the engine shuts off!

We're supposed to have more snow Saturday!

Would like to have a snow blower for my tractor. Did they start making the blower wider since 2006 when I bought my tractor?

Glad you were having some fun in the snow.

Seems to me it would be easy enough to find the wires (probably two) that go to the seat safety switch and jumper the connection or install a switch that allows for a jump situation or safety on. Either way should be easy to solve.

Glad your enjoying your 2720 and blower. Since Sat I've put 13 hrs on mine did 16 different driveways plus the church parking lot. Only reason for doing so many was because of all the freezing rain , sleet we had gotten over the last 2 days.
Went and checked a driveway about 3/4 mile from the house. The owner is in Afghanistan .shipped out about 2mos ago. I went and told his wife if she needed anything to give a ring and I would come . She appreciated that someone would check up on her ,they just moved in the area about a year ago, and donate there time. I appreciated the fact her husband was in the military.

I agree with you about the step. With the mower deck on it isn't to bad but without the mower it is a 22 inch step.

Your PTO switch is faulty, it should not be that stiff.

It shouldn't be that hard for the pull up PTO switch, on the 4700 and 5085M they have that pull up switch. On the 5085M it takes a bit of effort but on the 4700 it doesn't take much. It takes a bit of effort but it shouldn't be a workout.

I wish the 5000M series had a PTO like the Kubota where you "can" turn it on and ease the PTO on with the clutch. Wife and son ground feed with the 5065M and CaseIH 1250 Grinder Mixer yesterday and you need to give it a bit of throttle and I noticed when the PTO turned the on it was a bit of jolt to the system. I guess that's the one of pitfalls of electrically activated PTO's just like the X720. But it handled the big Grinder with ease though.

Your PTO switch is not normal, it should pull up easily. It also sounds like your seat switch is to sensitive. Are you a very small or light person?

We got more snow today and I was able to get some more seat time. This snow was a bit deeper and allowed me to use the blower for the first time as it was intended. I cleared 4 drive ways and probably put a good 2 hours of steady use on the blower. I had to negotiate a lot of obstacles which required frequent chute and spout changes. Everything worked well. I was initially disappointed with the cable routing when I first installed my remote spout control and shortly thereafter I added a second cable guide on the quick attach. It seemed to really help as the lever worked smooth and the new guide keeps the cable away from the hot exhaust.

There is one big disadvantage to the 54" blower - it clears such a wide path that you are finished in no time.

Here is a photo. Sorry it is not better - it was quickly getting dark outside.

What kind of chains do you have on that rig? What surfaces were you running them on? Happy with the resuts? I have a 2520 and I'm thinking about chains!

They are 2-link ladder chains from Tirechains.com. I normally clear 5 drive ways, three of them are gravel (including mine) and two of them are asphalt. I am happy with the results so far. This is my first winter with the 2720 as I just got it in July. My previous tractor was a Ford 9N / rear blade with loaded 13.6x28 tires and chains.

2 Link ladder on the front too? I take it you installed the spacers for the front wheels?
